Wow, what an interesting start to my day! I slept in until 11:00 because I didn't sleep much the night before. After drinking my coffee I got off the couch at 11:30 to take a shower and noticed some fluid in my underwear. I thought I had peed so didn't think much of it. After I got out of the shower I had another trickle of water and thought maybe it could be my water but I doubted it. This happened 3 more times until I finally smelled it and noticed the liquid didn't have any odor. At 1:00 I called my OB office and asked them what I should do. They said I should go to labor and deliver and get checked out. So we called Noni to come over and watch Nic while he was napping and off we went at 2:00 Monday afternoon.

I checked in at L&D and they did a swab test to see if it was my waters. I had to wait 30 minutes (4:00 at this time) which was torture because I had this bad feeling it was just a false alarm and I would be sent home. AA half an hour passed and my nurse came in to tell me we were having a baby!!! YAY!!!

At 4:55 I had no painful contractions, just slight cramping. They hooked up my IV and we had to wait for the GBS antibiotics. After that dose is finished they will determine if I need pitocin or not. The antibiotics stung while going in which was irritating. They told me I could get my epidural at anytime which was nice to know. I was told Zac pooped inside of me because my pad was a greenish color. This news scared me but I was reassured that it was common and I had nothing to worry about.

At 6:00 my nurse wanted me to walk the halls to see if I could get my labor going. At that time we called our moms and told them to come down whenever they wanted. At 6:30 I still wasn't having any contractions so they started my pitocin at 6:40.

I started to get a little panicky because I had no idea what kind of pain to expect with the pitocin. Every little cramp made me nervous and I was sick of just laying there. Im so impatient! I finally decided to get an epidural at 8:30 pm. That went great and I didn't feel any pain at all. I could still feel my cramps so he gave me more medicine which immediately made both legs numb.

At 8:50 Dr. Altman came to visit and check me and he completely broke my water. We all heard a pop and a gush of water. My catheter was placed at 9:10. The contractions started to gain steam at 9:20 and I was dilated to 5cm.

My contractions were slowing down to nothing so they started me on pitocin again at 10:00. At around 10:30 I was dilated to 7-8.

At 11:15 I was surprisingly dilated to 9.5!! Wooohoooo!! Time to get things started!! My nurse had me do 2 practice pushes before she called Dr Altman. At my second push I could hear it in her panicked voice to STOP PUSHING the baby was right there! She told me several times not to push. I felt nothing so I had no problem respecting her wishes.

My OB arrived at 11:45 and he got prepared. He had me push twice and there it happened.

Zachary Allen Wiggs was born 5/9/11
6 lbs. 6 oz. 17 inches long

Zac arrived into the world quiet and sluggish. This worried the nurses which in turn worried us and took all the excitment and joy out of the room. They tried everything to get him to cry but he just wouldn't. His lungs were also retracting which indicated he was having a little trouble breathing. We were all sitting on pins and needles for the first 30 minutes of his life. It was awful. They finally determined that everything seemed fine with him, he was probably just a calm little baby. He wanted to nurse right a way which was just adorable!

The nurse gave him his bath and I fed him again. I finally got out of bed and got cleaned up in the bathroom. The nurse wheeled me and Zac to my room while Kris followed next to us. Kris left the hospital at around 2:00. At 2:30 a nurse from pediatrics came in and told me that Zac was A-OK and I had nothing to worry about. What relief!

I stayed in the hospital for 48 miserable hours and was finally discharged on Thursday at noon.

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.
