Checked in at 6am for scheduled induction and had to wait on a room because they were so busy. Worked on getting IV started and the nurse blew out my vein in the top of my hand twice and in my right wrist once. So painful!! Another nurse came in, gave me litocain first and got it on one try in the top of my left wrist. Started pitocin at 7am and things were going good. I was 3-4 cm at this time and feeling hardly any pain. At 8:30 Dr. came in and broke my water and I was 4 ½ cm. I had mecconium (sp?) in the water so they explained what would need to be done once baby was born. At 10am I was 5cm and 80% effaced and feeling harder contractions and not able to get comfortable. The heart monitor kept messing up because I was moving around so much so they inserted an internal monitor so I could move as much as I wanted. Around 11:15am the nurse asked if I wanted the epi and I told her I thought I could wait a little longer and then about 10 minutes later I was in so much pain!! I called for the nurse and it took them about 20 minutes to get there. By then I was crying and clenching my teeth because I couldn’t take it anymore. I had to sit straight up in bed to feel better as I was having some back labor. Got the epi in and it took about 20 minutes to fully take effect---ahhh relief!!! I was finally able to lay back and relax. Nurse gave me my catheder and checked me and I was 5-6 cm and 90% effaced at 12:15 pm. 12:30pm feeling some pressure so I had her check me again and I was 6-7cm and happy things seemed to be going quickly. Took some time to read magazines and talk with family. Karli did not like all the relaxing however and her heart rate kept dropping so the nurse kept having me switch position in the bed. At 2:25 pm she came in and said she was going to check me again just to see since the heart rate wouldn’t regulate. Every time I had a contraction it dropped to about 70 bpm which was scaring all of us. I was so worried they were going to rush me for an emergency c-section or that something was wrong with the baby. She checked me and said, well now I know why she doesn’t like it, how about we have this baby. She called for another nurse, the doctor, NICU and respitory therapy since she had pooed in the water and they may be needed if she swallowed any at birth. B took off to the bathroom while they were setting up and we started practice pushes before he even made it back in. He came back during the second push and after that push the nurse told me to stop and ran out the door. She came back in with doctor and rest of staff and was throwing his scrubs on him and he asked if I was planning on doing this without him because babies head was coming. He had a student with him and explained a couple things to him and then told me it was go time again, pushed once and her head was out and he told me to stop, sucked her out and then one more push and she was out. Karli Elizabeth was born at 2:49pm on 8/1/11, 7 lbs 14 oz and 20 inches long with a tiny fuzz of dark hair and dark eyes and looking so perfect! I had just a tiny tear that he called a perinial tear and only got one stitch. My only soreness is the hemoroids are back-blah!! So painful!! And we found her heart rate was dropping because the cord was around her neck loosely one time. No harm to her and everything has checked out great. Her birth was so much easier then Gage’s and I think her and I were both rested and at ease right after delivery. I feel great and all of her stats are good. I am so in love!!
