So... here's the quick and dirty. I woke up at 5:00am MST with regular cramping/back ache, but that wasn't too different from a lot of mornings. I slept until just before 7:00, got up, and realized that they weren't stopping once I was up and about, which is what had been happening on days previous to that. Told DH he may want to stick around home. I called the midwives at about 10:00 maybe to let them know that I thought baby was on his or her way - I was still kind of sporadic. Contractions were anywhere from 4 minutes to 8 minutes apart, lasting between 30 seconds to a minute. They were still pretty easily manageable, but took a bit of concentration. When I talked to Elise, she recomended a bath - either that would stop them, or if they continued then we knew were on for the big day. In the bath they became more regular, and then I had three right on top of each other, so decided to hop out and call my BFF to come pick up Nolan. He got there just before 11:00, and the midwives came just after 11:00 (I had also called them again after my bath). I was 4cm, but could be stretched to 5cm, so they decided to go pick up lunch, and then came back to eat. While they were away, the contractions became more intense and required some vocalization along with them... I was kneeling at the end of my bed leaning on my hope chest with DH rubbing my back. Elise and Ann came up to let Zach know that I could get in the tub whenever I wanted at that point. I went through a couple more contractions, and then hopped in the tub. Things got a lot more intense at that point, and I was kneeling in the tub over the edge holding on to DH. Contractions started coming3 or 4 on top of each other with out a break, and I started feeling a little pressure in my bum. I decided I wanted to get out - I was tired of kneeling and wanted to lie down for a while. I hopped into bed a layed on my side - Elise checked me and I was 9 cm> I lbored through a couple more contractions and my water broke... I literally thought that I sprayed amniotic fluid across the room there was so much pressure!! But, it all stayed contained to my well protected bed, thank goodness!!!One more contraction and I progressed to 10, but with a lip of cervix, and they discovered that our little pumpkin had actually been sunnyside up the whole time... grrrr - so I guess I was actually experiencing back labor the whole time without realizing it! They got me on all fours, and he changed position fairly quickly, but we were having a tough time getting the lip to move. I got out of bed and labored standing for a while... I could tell I was 10cm because my contractions slowed down a bit and became more manageable again - just concentrated breathing needed for most instead of a lot of vocalization. I started pushing involuntairly, and Elise found that my cervix had cleared and I was ready to go. I kneeled down and started pushing... after only a couple of minutes I said it felt really painful, to which Elise replied "Well, that's because the baby is crowning"... hmm. I hadn't felt like I had made any progress at that point, but I guess I had - another push and he crowned. I stopped pushing and just eased him out to the shoulders, no tearing. I think he had the cord around him, so Elise unwrapped him without trouble, but then we discovered that his shoulder was very stuck, so it got a little hectic as they made me very quickly get on my back on the bed, and push the rest of him out very quickly, so I did end up with a very small tear, but it hasn't bothered me in the least. It must have been quite the sight, an enormous pregnant lady, with a head hanging out of her vagina, launching herself on to a bed!!! LOL - I can't even imagine what I looked like!!!!
