So I had my 2nd appt with my midwife this morning. She was amazing. I adore kind she is. She answered all of our questions in great detail, and never made us feel rushed in any way at any time. When we were finished going over all of our questions, she said "now let's take a listen to that little person you're growing in there". Dh and I said how we were both so excited to hear the hb nice and loud, as our doppler at home is pretty quiet, and she laughed and said "Well this will be a treat then, because this one is loud!"
She couldn't find the heartbeat. She tried for about 10 minutes. She asked when I'd last heard it and I told her yesterday morning. She ordered an urgent u/s right then and there.
I was beside myself when we left her office. We have heard the hb (or what I thought was the heartbeat) many times, at home, with our crappy little doppler, and hers is shiny and new, and definitely more professional than the one we have.
I insisted on listening when we got home, and I found the hb right away, but now I'm questioning whether or not it is even the baby, or if it is something else. I'm definitely feeling confused.
I'm currently waiting on the hospital to call with a time for me to go in and have an u/s.........I remain hopeful. I pray that baby is still growing away in there, and that it was just a problem with her doppler.
Any and all prayers are welcome. I will of course update when I know more.

Was she able to pick up your heartbeat and/or the placenta sound on her doppler? Because I think if you were confusing baby's HB with anything, it would be with one of those two things.
You can youtube videos of people using their dopplers to see what a HB sounds like - that's what I did yesterday when I needed reassurance that I was picking up baby's HB on the doppler.
Sending Ts&Ps that all is perfectly well and that you get to see the baby dancing away on the u/s very soon. Be sure to keep us posted!

That would be very stressful! Can you count the heartrate you are getting on your Doppler? Yoursis probably around 80 and the baby's twice that. Easiest is to count for 6 seconds and multiply by 10. That will at least give you a better idea! I hope they get the US soon and that everything is ok!

Expecting Baby #6 EDD 12/3/13
Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Did her doppler pick up any sound at all?
Yes, it picked up my heartbeat just fine.......and lots a hungry gurgles. But no baby........
And with my doppler, I have never counted the bpm because it displays them on the screen, and I have always just assumed I could take it's "word" for it. I'd like to continue thinking that way but I'm just very confused as to why she couldn't find it.
She also seemed very surprised at how high my fundus was......she said it was alot higher than she was expecting, I was too busy crying at that point to really pay attention so I'm not sure if that was a good thing, a bad thing, or a "it means nothing" thing.......
Still nothing from the hospital.

Oh I am so sorry! That is so stressful! When you pick up the hb, how fast is it??? It should be pretty easy to determine if it is the baby or you because it will be MUCH faster, so if you are hearing a really fast heartbeat than that's probably baby. So sorry you have to deal with this stress!!
Please dont stress. I went through the same thing with Mia. I was finding the h/b at home for over 3wks, every day. went in at 12wks and the dr. tried with his doppler (mine was better IMO, LOL) and he could not find it. He just brought out the u/s machine and the baby was obviously very much alive! He told me, that because it was still so early, that I had a better angle with lying down and pressing the doppler in the right angle than he did. But he only tried for like a few minutes and had no idea at that point that I was finding it on my own at home for so long. He did not want to scare me and just did the u/s right away. It always took him longer from that point on to find the h/b than it did me. I knew where the baby was most of the time, and he did not. If your hearing the h/b and its in the 120-180bpm range, than your definitely hearing the baby. Hang in there, at least you get to see the baby again today!

I hope you got an U/S by now! Sending loads of t&p maybe your doppler is better than theirs. My Midwife told me not to worry if hers didn't pick it up, she'd order an ultrasound so we could hear the HB.
So that's probably it. Let's think positive, you'll get to see a little bean today!

It's now 4:40 pm here, and I still haven't heard from the hospital. I suppose since it doesn't threaten my life, they feel can wait.........which is fine, no matter if the heart is beating or not, there is nothing I can do about it. And I am positive that babes heart is beating away just fine.
I took the girls down to the local track after school. They played in the park while I walked laps to clear my head. I thought and thought, and I've decided that there is just no way possible that what I am hearing isn't the babies heartbeat. It is always 165 - 175, and generally in the same spot almost every time. I know what it should sound like and it does. So whatever happened back at my midwifes office today was just some weird fluke, because I know I'm hearing my baby, and dh is sure of it too.
I guess there is a small part of me that wants to "see it to believe it", as I don't feel completely relaxed yet, but I feel alot better than I did, and I thank all you lovely ladies for your support.
As SOON as I have the time, I will let you know. Fingers crossed.
The time of the u/s that is!
