My braxton hicks have come a long ways since the first ones I would get while sleeping. It was just a mild cramp, that felt like a menstrual cramp and didn't last long at all.
They progressively got worse as the weeks went on. I now can't even stand through them, last night as I was cooking dinner for bf and I I couldn't feel them start, and get worse so I turned down dinner to extremely low and had to lay on the floor, I was in so much pain my eyes were watering, I couldn't get up. My bf came over to me and was just like "HOLY" and sat down beside me and rubbed my back until it passed, he was so worried and I think I really scared him for the real thing. It was a good ting of reality for him though haha. It was awful, when I get braxton hicks, it hurts bad, and I know it is a braxton hick because it feels like an extremely intense menstrual cramp and I just feel my belly or uterus get hard in the area where I'm feeling it. I thought it could be round ligament pain but that seems ridiculously painful for a stretching pain.

Is anybody else feeling intense pain with their braxton hicks?

I get them kinda bad when I go for a long walk esp if it's hot outside. Or if it's hot and I'm out too long doing yardwork. My husband will stop me after so long and make me sit and drink water.

Hmm, in general braxton hicks should not be painful. Uncomfortable yes, but if you are having to breathe through them it may be a good idea to check with your doctor and make sure they are not actually doing anything. I have a LOT of BH. The only time they actually hurt is when I have a full bladder and then it is more my bladder that hurts from the pressure and having to pee so bad. If I went by the "call your doc if you have more than 4 in an hour" I would be on the phone with my doc every day. I don't always have a ton at once but I will have 4 or 5 and then nothing for hours. Thankfully I know they are not changing my cervix since I just had a cervical check last week, but they are definitely irritating!

I had to go to l & d because of them and she didn't say they werent braxton hicks. I just find it impossible for them to be ligament pain because it's not that type of feeling. I know this is my first but when I do get the round ligament pain it is more of a stretching feeling. and my doctor said i would experience "contractions" up until i give birth now.
I know they arent changing my cervix as well because I just had a cervical check on Monday as well.

Ok good. I am totally not saying that you don't know what you are talking about, I definitely think they sound like contractions, it just worried me that they were painful. When I was pregnant with my first I told my doc I was having BH and she didn't believe me and it really ticked me off, lol. I don't think it sounds like round ligament pain either, just wanted to make sure they were dilating you or anything, so I am glad to hear you have had a cervical check!

Im definitely not dilated, when I had my check up Monday I was extremely.....tight down there, it actually hurt. Hahah.
Just am worried now that if its not braxton hicks, what could it be. Because these are very very painful.

i havent had any, i never got them with my son until like 35 weeks.

But i didnt find them painful, they were a bit uncomfortable but everyone has a different pain tolerance, so you very well could be having painful Braxton hicks. If youre not dilating then they arent real contractions so i dont know what else they could be.

I am with Urchin.............this is baby #5 for me and I thought they were suppose to get worse with each pregnancy. I have only felt a handful and I am almost 21 weeks. I am hoping my uterus is getting ready for the big job ahead! I also hope I am just distracted enough with my other kids that I amnot feeling them. Labor is usually not too painful for me so I am hoping my body is just used to the conctraction feeling now

Hmmm... I have had them with all of my children. They normally become more like "real" contractions toward the end.. for me. The current ones I am getting now are different in that they do not "radiate" as much. KWIM? They are more like a cramping feeling, that leaves my belly hard like a rock. I have them all the time....and ALWAYS after I pee. Odd. The radiating BH toward the end feel like early labor, feels like my uterus will squeeze, squeeze, squeeze until it stops and remains tight for just a bit. And those will be way more frequent and random. Not sure how painful it is, since we all have a different tolerence for pain. KWIM?

But my current BH are uncomfortable enough that I do not want to be walking through them. But they are nothing unusual for me.

Mine were hurting so much the other day that I cried. My hip was hurting at the same time, and if i moved to make the BH stop, my hip would hurt unbearably... and vice versa. I want this part of pregnancy to go away! Unpleasant!!!!

I don't think I've had any. I've had cramping, but I think it is just from how I was laying. So, if I am having them, they are very faint.

Oddly enough, this is my fourth (fifth) pregnancy, and I have NEVER had one single BH contraction in my life....all my contractions have been the "real deal" of labour when I am past 41 weeks.....I dont even know what they feel like.

I guess I've never experienced them either. Or I'm too busy to notice. Sorry! I hope they get better. I do know they aren't supposed to hurt...but one mans not hurt is another man's pain soooo that is probably individual. In general, they aren't supposed to hurt.

I get a few now and then, but they never hurt. It worries me that a few of you are having them so strongly that they hurt you! But, if you've been to your doctors, then who am I to say?!

I'm sorry you're going through that!

This is my 6th baby and I have only felt a few of them over the last few weeks. With my last pregnancy (last year) I started getting them regularly at 15wks. Maybe 10 a day.....but they never hurt. Felt the tightening, and it takes my breath away......but absolutely no pain. Now round ligement pain, that is very painful for me. When that ligement go's the wrong way or is pulled out, I want to cry from the pain and I cant move at all. I have to roll back and forth until the pain go's away.

A true braxton hick contraction at this stage should not cause any pain at all, just a quick tightening that lasts less than a minute. Sounds alot like round ligament pain to me, IMO.

I wouldnt even say mine are uncomfortable, more of a hardening and a funny feeling. I never had any until my 3rd pregnancy. I would say a get a handful a day.

I'm almost positive I haven't had any BH's yet. My midwives gave me a detailed handout about them during my last appointment, so I'm pretty sure I'd be able to recognize them if I was having them.

I had a crampy kind of feeling yesterday really low on the right side of my belly that made me a little nervous, but in the end it just ended up being trapped gas (sorry- TMI).
