I know many of you are on a tight budget...we are too! (All of our extra money is going towards paying off debt...ALL of it. Ugh)
I wanted to give you all a heads up about Craigslist. With my DD I really wanted fancy black and white maternity/newborn pics done. You know, the artsy kind with naked baby, etc. Well we could not afford any of the studios in our area and I ended up searching Craigslist. What I found was there are alot of photographers starting out who are trying to fill up their portfolio. So they will do it for free or a very low price. Of course it's a total stranger so I'd be careful about having anyone come to your house or going somewhere isolated, etc. But still, great deals can be found!!! We had gorgeous pics taken of DD for a very low price and I was very happy with it.
HTH those who have their heart set on professional pics but can't afford it. It was a major issue for me while pregnant with my last one.

That's a great idea! I never think to check graigslist for things like that. If you have a Target around, most have a portrait studio and IMO are better looking pictures over all over walmart for the same price roughly. If you have any friends that have a dslr camera, maybe see if they would do some pics for you?

Sometimes also calling around studios in the phone book or asking other people with kids where they go. There is a lot of studios that charge $150 just for sitting fee, not including prints or anything but taking the pictures here.
I was really discouraged and we took DS to Sears. I was not happy at all. He broke out in a rash an hour before picture because of his formula. I specifically asked to have the rash on his face edited out on the physical prints. I seriously started crying when I got them. They not only didn't edit out the rash, but there were scratches on his face I didn't see on the screen. Not to mention he was 1 month old when we went (due to him being in the NICU and not able to go anywhere till he was 2 weeks then me getting an infection). The girl had no idea how to do pictures with a young baby. She was getting mad because he kept wanting to close his eyes and fall asleep. Then she was done because he started crying when she kept waking him up and we tried to feed him. We went on Thursday night in July... NO one was even in the store aside workers from what we saw. Plus their disk with "printing rights" are useless. First off they make the pictures so small they can't be reprinted and you only get like 10 at most pictures on the disk that the person taking the pictures liked. My friend made his 1 year invites, she couldn't even use the pictures from them because they were to small. We ended up paying around $200 there.
Anyways when he was 2 months old my mom got a free sitting coupon for a local children's studio. We figured why not give them a try. We've been going there ever since! They charge $20 for a 45min sitting fee, which is 2 outfits and a naked/diaper in 4 poses. When they are done you sit down with them and go through all the pictures and pick your favorites. They edit them right away. Then you pick your package and what pictures you want in what sizes. They seriously print the pictures while you pay. When everything is said and done we pay about $200. But that includes 8 sheets of pictures (you pick the sizes), the sitting fee, and a disk with ALL the pictures they took and full rights to the pictures. The disk from DS's 1 year shoot, with a smash cake, we came home with a disk with 150 pictures on it.
