As some of you know, on friday, I was having a lot of pain on my right side. I went to see my doctor and we figured it was just really bad round ligament pain.
He said to make sure I went to Emergency if I got nauseaus, chills, or diarreah.
Saturday I was still in a lot of pain, but otherwise felt fine. Sunday I felt normal.
On Monday however, on my way to work, I started to get a searing pain in my hip and groin. After trying to work for 3 hours, I was eventually in so much pain that I was in tears. I started to get chills, nausea and diarreah..I left work and went to Emergency.
At emergency, I was seen by the on call doctor who did an ultrasound and said baby was ok. He also wanted to do a cervical check to be safe.
What happened after that was horrific to say the least. He preformed the cervical chech and was SO rough. I have never been through something like that in my life. When he removed his finger, it was covered in blood and he immediately said he could not feel much of my cervix and thought I was in pre-term labour.
I lost it. He left me in the room alone to bawl my eyes out. A few minutes later, a nurse came in, hooked me up to an IV and tried to calm me down. He was MUCH nicer. He told me he was taking me to Labour & Delivery and that they would look after me. He also let me call Dan to let him know what was going on.
When I got to L&D I was still bawling. They moved me into a room and hooked me up to a monitor. The nurses were incredibly nice. An intern came in to ask me some questions while we waited for the on-call OB to arrive. After about 20 minutes, another nurse came in and Dan arrived. The nurse looked at my monitor readings and I was SO relieved to have her tell me that I was not having any contractions and baby seemed fine.
After Dan arrived I calmed down but was still reall upset. When the OB arrived, she came right to see me and both she and the nurse expressed how upset they were with what had happened in Emergency. Apparently the doctor had no idea what he should have been looking for, and should have sent me directly to L&D.
The OB did a cervical check and said that other than bleeding from the rough check from the previous dr, my cervix was long and closed and fine.
She then left the room for a minute with the nurse to check on another patient.
The nurse came back and said that the OB had noticed I didn't have an OB looking after me yet, and that if I wanted to be her patient for the remainder of my pregnancy, she would gladly take me. So I now have an amazing OB for the rest of my pregnancy. She was so nice, understanding, and concerned.
After checking my urine, they did notice some blood, so they are pretty sure I passed a kidney stone (hence all the pain I was in).
I go in for two ultrasounds on my kidneys tomorrow to check things out.
So I am relieved to say that baby is 100% ok, but the ordeal I went through stll has me shaken up and feeling a bit violated.
Omg, Rae! I am near tears reading this! So glad to hear that your LO is doing well and that all the pain was "only" kidney stones, but holy crap that ER dr. should be fired or sued or something!
Ugh- I am so, so sorry that you've had to go through all this. I hope you're hope resting and taking it easy.

I am sorry you went through that, but I am glad the baby is okay. I would really be turning in that dr, there is no need for that to happen and really if he had no business checking you then why did he in the first place? He doesnt need to be dealing with any other patients.
Anyways, I am glad you are okay.
Oh my gosh!!!! How traumatizing and terrifying! I can't believe they did that to you!!! If you are over 20 weeks you should never even be seen in the ER, you should be sent right up to L&D. I am SO sorry you had to go through that but I am so relieved that you and the baby are OK!! ((HUGS))
what a scary experience! shame on that doctor!! so glad all was well. I have been having terrible kidney problems called hydronephrosis. They originally thought I could be passing a stone too, but nothing was showing up on u/s.
Wow! Gotta love the doc who pretends to know what he is talking about...and maims you in the process. How horrible.
I am so sorry it was such a scary day. And I did read somewhere, a while back (prolly in one of those Parenting or Redbook mags) that the rates of kidney stones increased during pregnancy. At least if I am remembering correctly. I hope that it was "all" it was. Glad little girl is doing just fine

Yah.. I have no idea why my family doctor told me to got the ER. Even the nurses at L&D said it was strange that the nurses in ER didn't just send me right up to them to begin with.
I know for now on that if I have future problems, I am going straight to L&D and avoiding the ER at all costs.
Oh my, I can't believe the ER doc did a cervical check on you at your stage of pregnancy! That is outrageous!
I'm glad everything turned out o.k. in the end and you found a good OB. That was very nice of her to offer. Kidney stones suck... my husband has had several, including the last one that caused him to pass out at work.
Yikes!!! I'm SO glad he was wrong but how terrible to even make you go through that. I'm glad you found a great OB going forward too! Take it extra easy tonight - you've certainly earned it!!!

So sorry that you had to go thru that! I think that a lot of the docs in the ER don't know enough about the lady parts, whether the patient is pg or not. I had one check me out once (thought maybe it was a m/c or somthing, didn't know if I was pg or not) and he "checked" all that. Turned out to be a cyst. When I went in to see my now regular OB, he cehcked everything and it was totally different. The ER dude had NO idea what the heck he was doing. I a mglad to hear the you and LO are doing well despite the idiot Dr.
I would have felt incredibly violated as well! I am so sorry you had to have such a horrid experience. That "Dr" has a medical degree? That is so scary! I am happy everyone in L&D were so kind to you and you found an amzing OB in the process of all this.
On top of the horrible ER doc you had kidney stones too? Poor mama..I am glad you are feeling better!
I am sorry you had to go through that! What a horrible experience!! I would def. be turning him in and filing some serious complaints. That was completely inappropriate of him on so many different levels. I am glad you and baby are ok. I will keep you both in my T&P, hope that's the only kidney stone you have. KUP.

WHAT THE HECK! That is so horrible! I was freaking out for you while reading that! What an arse! and to treat you like that, and violate you, not ok, I would have been pissed after it all. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I am glad you got a great OB tho, so sorry you had to come by her the way you did, that is absolutely awful. ((tons of hugs))
