ive seen a few post about reflux. We have had Ari on Zantac for a few months and Nadine was put on it about a week ago.

We tried having it flavored but it didnt make a difference. They can only flavor it grape since its normal flavor is a strong peppermint.

We using one of those safty first medication ups with a nipple on the end. i fill it with warm breast milk then add the medication. Ari takes it with no problem. It works best for him a night time so he gets it before his last feeding.

Nadine will not take a bottle so i wait until she is hungry and put a paci in her mouth. I take it out, put half the medication in a pop the paci back in...she sucks and swallows. We dont normally dont give a paci at all but we are doing what we need to do. It works best for her if she takes it in the mornings.

someone was asking for tips so hope this helps!

i just put my daughter on zantac and i just use the dropper that came with her gripe water to administer the meds. she doesnt seem to mind it too much, yet. i do have a medicine dispenser nipple/bottle thing that i'll try in the event she stops taking the dropper

You're able to choose to give it to them night or day...my dr told us to give it twice a day so we don't really have that option. Thanks for the tips...we are just starting out with it so I'll probably be trying some soon!

We have to give Addison Zantac 1.2 mLs twice per day which is just shy of the max dosage for her weight. I use the paci method but do it in fourths since she gets so much. I have to do it when she is hungry or she spits it out. The paci really helps make sure she sucks and swallows it instead of letting it run out of her mouth. I really don't blame them for hating that stuff. It smells disgusting! It is a tremendous pain reducer for Addison though, so she will continue to get it without fail no matter how nasty it is.

Are any of your babies having to see a GI specialist? Anyone's babies having fundoplication? Addison's GI doctor said this week that if she has a plateau of growth or any more respiratory distress, she will be having the surgery for her reflux. While the surgery scares me, respiratory distress scares me more. We dealt with that for her first 21 days, and I do not want to go back there any more.

Are any of you having to thicken formula or breastmilk to help control the reflux? What are you using? Today Addison had some new wheezing when we went to the pulmonologist, so she said it was time to get aggressive with thickening feeds. I pump everything Addison eats and thicken it with rice cereal. Now she wants to increase gradually to 1 tbsp rice to 1 ounce milk and wants us to thicken it more with greek yogurt. She said that a neonatologist she was working with this week is from Scandinavia and that they use the yogurt to thicken feedings in their babies and this doctor was trying it with one of the NICU babies right now here. We will start that tomorrow. Also we will be alternating rice and oatmeal to combat constipation.
