Will you be doing the vaccination for it? If not, will you do something like a "chicken pox party"?

I don't know yet. My sisters had a chicken pox party and all four of their kids (combined) got it and were able to hang out all week together... seemed kind of fun...

We will definitely vaccinate. I had chicken pox in kindergarten during spring break, and then my sister got them a few days after I was over it. Her case was worse because she got them on the soles of her feet, on her scalp, and was three at the time. I do not want my girls to have to deal with it.

We'll vax.. I'm kinda of glad to hear there's a vax for that now. It sucked! I got it the weekend the fair came to town, and back then (and when you're a kid) that was a pretty big deal and I was really sad I missed it.. Not to mention the chicken pox itself was NOT fun to have. I know compared to some of the other diseases out there chicken pox isn't that big a deal (when you're a kid) but I figure.. why suffer if you don't have to?
If there wasn't a vaccine, though, I'd totally do the chicken pox parties. Rather have her go through it with friends than alone.. It's lonely when you're the only one sick and no one's allowed to visit.

Yes, we will vaccinate. I wouldn't consider the pox parties, though - I'm not ok w/ intentionally exposing my child to a potentially deadly virus (it's uncommon, but it can be fatal).
I had the pox in kindergarten - missed my first dance recital. Isn't it funny that each of us tended to miss something important because of it?

There's a vaccine? Huh. I have no idea what I'll do. Definitely no "party" but I was wondering how the heck I'd do the whole thing. I had it when I was around 2 so I don't remember it at all. I haven't even heard of any kids up here having it, but I''m sure I will at some point now that I have a kid myself.
Does the vaccine cover the illness for life?

DD did get the 1st of two shots and after the first one she ended up with a mild case of the chicken pox...but we will go ahead and give Jordan the vac because I would rather have the mild case and just be done with it.

We wont do the vax, my 12 yr old is the only one of mine that had that vax and he ended up getting shingles from it which can be common and is much more horrible and painful than pox. my 3 youngest havent had cp yet and i will definitely take them to a pox party to expose them. I know cp isnt fun but we all lived thru it and to me its just part of childhood. Plus chicken pox itself provides much better immunity than the vaccine does.

I wasn't vax'ed. I had pox when I was about 3. I only barely remember it. I had the shingles at 18. I think my brother was vax'ed though. I don't remember what came of it. He is already immuno-compromised. I don't think we will vax Lily either.

vaccinate...the chicken pox going around now is much stronger then the one that went around when we were kids. I don't agree with pox parties.

We will vaccinate. I had it when I was younger on my 3rd birthday. I have pictures of me opening presents in just undies and rain boots haha.
I did hear something though that if you had the vaccination as a child and never had chicken pox that you should get the vaccination again as an adult as it could be very dangerous the older you are. I'm not sure how true that is though.

It's definitely more dangerous as an adult! I'm not sure why though? Maybe because it causes a fever and adults don't handle high fevers as well? I never really looked into it...we were just talking about chicken pox so that's why I decided to post this lol. That's where I get my ideas! I never heard of pox parties until the Internet. My sister and I had it in kindergarten and then never again but she did get shingles when she was like 16.
