After you mentioned in some thread that your daughter was born in a car, I had to go and stalk to find her birth story took me a while, but I did - and WOW! That was an amazing read! Is that also part of the reason why you're planning a home birth this time? I laboured from Friday afternoon (with my first daughter) and she was only born Monday morning, I can't believe how quickly she came for ya!

WOW! You deserved an award after going through that labor!! How was your 2nd DD's birth?

I could have posted the story for you so you didn't have to go on a hunt! I don't know where it is on JM, but I'll find it and post it below if anyone is interested.

We get the "WOW" response a lot. It always cracks me up because people act like it must have been scary and awful and I always say "We achieved everything we wanted! Minimal intervention, Ryan got to be involved, and it was short and sweet!" Sure, I probably would have preferred being in a bed or tub, but oh well! I'd do it the same way again.

A few things to note about my labor, though - I did A LOT to naturally speed things up in the 2 weeks before labor(I will share those later in our pregnancies if anyone is interested). I was already at 5cm when my water broke, so it only took an hour and 45 minutes for me to get dilated enough to push. Also, she was super tiny so I don't know if I actually went to 10cm dilated or if I just started pushing at 8 or something, ya know?

Ideally, I'd probably like to give birth at a free standing birth center, but the area we live in now only has hospitals and I really, really don't want a hospital birth. So, I'm shooting for a home birth. I do think my experience having Colette has made me confident. I hope I'm not wrong in feeling that way! lol

Anyway, here is the story:

Well, I definitely hope you get your home birth this time! I am glad the paramedics arrived pretty quickly and that your DH was so helpful, that's really great! There was another mommy on JM recently who gave birth in the car, but I can't for the life of me remember which PR that was from!

With my 2nd DD, it was faster (went into labour Tuesday night, she was born Wednesday morning), but still - like you mentioned, my water also broke (at the hospital) when I was 5cm dilated, but that was midnight Tuesday and she was only born the next morning - I go slow. lol.

Awe, that is an awesome story! In all that hubby didn't think to get out a camera and take a born in the car photo, LMAO.

My sister gave birth in the emergency room hallway LOL. It was the craziest thing i ever experienced, the hospital said it doesn't happen very often.

Thanks girls! Julie - the paramedics actually weren't much help! I was nursing her by the time they leisurely strolled over ! They said when they heard I was a 1st time mom they thought I must be panicking.

Ok, just between us...I was having back labor and since I'd never experienced labor before it did feel a little bit like the sensation you have when you have to go to the bathroom (and I heard it's not uncommon to have a bowel movement when you're in labor), so I did have a moment right after calling 911 and right before Ryan said he saw the head where I thought "Oh no! What if this is just the part where I'm going to poop on myself and I am taking off my pants on the side of the highway for that!" Can you imagine how embarrassing that would have been?! So, when Ryan said he could see her head I was relieved for a couple reasons.

Wow... was her nose okay? LOL. I am just curious because they always suction their nose at the hospital first thing and make it look like the baby will suffocate if you don't or something!

We actually had a nasal aspirator packed in the birth bag, so Ryan grabbed it and we sucked out the gunk.

Ha! No, we were just planning on staying at my mom's house for a week or 2 after the birth, so I packed everything I could think she'd possibly need. And because I'm a total birth junkie, I remembered it was in there right after she was born because I was thinking "What steps do we need to take?!"

Wow, I'm in awe!! That's so incredible! And I want to know what you did 2 weeks prior to speed things up! My labor was really slow too.
