I am REALLY debating buying a crib. The crib I have from my other kids doesn't meet the safety standards anymore. I'm planning on getting a co sleeper since I will be breast feeding. I've read that they last until the baby is about 5 months old. I have a bad habit of co sleeping with my children. None of my other kids left my bed until they were around 3 years old and then they went to a toddler bed. Basically I had the crib just for show because none of them ever used it. So if you were me, would you buy a crib knowing that most likely the baby will never sleep in it? I think the nursery will look silly without a crib but is it worth spending all that money just for looks?

Well, if I were you (lol) and specifically planning to NOT use it, then no, I wouldn't buy it. Can you just put the old crib you already have in the nursery if you're concerned about the appearance? If the baby won't be using it, then it doesn't really matter if it meets safety standards or not.

i never used the cribs i bought. But then again i never really set up a nursery. Since the kids all stayed with me until they were in big beds, i never bothered with a nursery. But id go with what the others say. go new if the baby might use it, if not go with the old.

i probably wont use my crib till the baby is a bit bigger and learns to sleep thru the night. im a co sleeper kinda. im going to ebf but i cant imagine having the kid take my personal space, my sleep area away till its 3-4 my sister did that and it drove me bonkers. my personal thing though so plz dont take offense to it. my 4 yr old slept with me only when i bf him. anyways to the point... most cribs now are a 4 in 1 the become the crib then toddler then day bed then full size so in a way i think your saving money by buying one because you will eventually have to keep upgrading.... idk just a thought...
Thanks ladies. I was considering using the old one just for looks but DH doesn't want to set it up for nothing.
I'm not offended at all by anyone's opinions. All of us do what's best for us. My DH works 3rd shift and doesn't come home until the morning so even now my 6 year old sleeps with me when my DH is at work. To be honest all 3 of my kids sleep in my room while he's gone. The 11 and 12 year olds just sleep on the floor. I guess they feel secure being by me.
The 4 in 1 crib is what I was considering since it really wouldn't be a waste of money. If I buy a crib that's what I will go with.
Thanks for all the thoughts : )

I bought a cosleeper thinking I would use it and then transition my daughter to a crib. Well, the cosleeper became a very expensive hamper/diaper holder. I found it was so much easier having her in bed with me. So, for me personally, I would skip the crib.
DD was sleeping in our room in the bassinet of the pack and play.So will this baby.
If u have crib that noone's using it,i wouldn't buy a new one.Honestly,i find ridiculous all those safety requirements these days.
Well, let me be the oddball! There are sooo many great deals on Craigslist! If you owned a crib you were more proud of I know I would be more apt to put it to use. You say you have a habit of co sleeping, well maybe it will help (if thats what you mean) If you can find a functional up to date one for cheap then I would get it! I know hubby and I saw tons yard saling! They just wanted to get rid of them. So maybe you shouldn't look, but don't feel bad about ever finding one you can't be without!
