Holy cow, the options!

I'm wondering if you ladies could help me out. DH works and is now back in school so I want a good monitor that has a capability to let him watch our daughter from a computer/fancy phone/whatever while he's away.

I've added and then deleted about 5 monitors from my registry and i'm feeling a bit lost. I'm tech saavy enough, but some of the reviews on Amazon make me dizzy lol. Any suggestions?

I was just going to post on the same topic! I'd appreciate some suggestions too. I have the Safety 1st prism on my registry now but it only has two stars I'd like to delete it and add something different.

I love our baby monitor, but we got it on clearance at Babys R Us. It's no longer made now though, so I can't recommend it. I think the video monitors are nice in theory, but would not be used really. I mean, when you are sleeping, will you be watching the baby? LOL

I'm very wary of the video monitors. My cousin had one and one night she woke to check her baby, and it wasnt her baby on the screen! one of her neighbours had one too and it was their baby she was looking at! turned me right off them!
But the one you posted looks more like a camera instead of a monitor.

This is the one we got for jake and i loved it. pretty low tech, but it never had interference, it was perfect volume and lasted a really long time. We used it until jake was 3 and the wire on the listening part (the parent part) got a bit loose and got annoying, but in fairness, we had used it every night for 3 years. the transmitter part is still perfect, jake is using it as a night light right now. def recommend it if you are looking for something basic but reliable.

ETA: wow, just read the reviews! i bought mine 4 years ago and it looks alot different, so i think they might have changed it! i have had none of the problems that the reviewers had!

I cant even remember the brand I used with DS, but it was cheap. I really want a video monitor this time but looking to buy it second hand or maybe get it when baby sleeps in same room as his brother.

I have a Summer Infant video monitor. I think this might be the best purchase we ever made with DD. It was useful right away (she was a few months old when we got it) but the older she gets, the more I love it. My mom even wants me to get another one for the new baby! I'm not going to, but that's how much we love it. It works well, much less sound interference than the non-video ones, and I can't tell you the piece of mind it brings. I can even hear her breathing sometimes. Picture quality is good. It's been a while, but I think it was called "day and night" or something. It has a night vision thing for when the room is dark.

We didn't like the thought of wireless (all the cross-overs with other nearby neighbors ..or crazy people) so we bought a infared video monitor (it sees in the dark & in color) and have it wired to the television in our room. It's much higher quality & wide-spread views than the basic baby monitors. & MUCH cheaper! We're going to buy another one to hook up for the new baby. Imput 1 & Imput 2. haha.

Kel does that keep people from being able to interfere, when my sister had her monitor at my moms house, we were able to watch the dog 2 houses down across the street as on the other channel it ALWAYS picked up that house for some reason, the first time the room with the dog we couldn't help but laugh!!!!
I also used to pick up my neighbors phone conversations on my sons monitor

Yep! It's hardwired in so you can't cross any channels. There are none. You *could* make it wireless if you want, we just didn't want to specifically for privacy purposes.

If your husband wants it specifically to hook up to a computer this is a great way to go!

My sister-in-law has a Summer Infant monitor and it interferes with their wireless internet. Did you have any problems with that or other interference?

That is the one that we used for Stella and will be using it again for Pinto. I love it. It only comes on when the child makes a sound so you are not listening to white noise when there is nothing going on. A video monitor was just not for me because I was afraid I would obsess over it.
