I know most doctors want women to wait until as close to 40 weeks as possible before inducing them, but it seems if someone is scheduled have a c-section they are done a few weeks earlier. I've read that after 37 weeks the baby is primarily working on brain, lung, and digestive system development.. Which I imagine are pretty important! So why the different standard between c-sections and vaginal births?? I understand in areas of high risk, twins, and etc.. But I had a friend and my sister-in-law have perfectly normal pregnancies, but because they ended up having to have a c-section with their first baby they were scheduled to come in early around 37 weeks with their second.

No clue. Could be bc they dont want mom to go into labor.

I know for me, my doctor does not want me to go into labor, i have a cracked left hip and had a complete replacement on the right side so it would be bad for my body to go into labor, causes too much stress. . .that being said, he is still only planning it for the week before Im due, which scares me ! !

They do the section early so the mother doesnt go into labour on her own. if the mother does go into labour by herself, the cesarean becomes an emergancy, which is alot tougher on both mom and baby.

So then there isn't really a big concern about babies additional developments? I've read that even at 37 weeks a baby is more lively to have low blood sugar, be jaundice, and spit up/having difficulty eating...

There is, its just that those things are only a possibility, ie they only might happen, and the risk of an emergancy section or labour can be more dangerous to both mother and baby, whereas the things you've mentioned can be helped with meds and such.

I'm not sure why a doctor would schedule a c section so early unless there were health problems, but I think the same thing about inductions. Every doctor is different, I was induced 2 weeks early with my son because of the risk with my blood pressure.

I'm just really interested, as I know with this being me second there is a possibility baby benny could come early. Another friend of mine was induced early (about 38 weeks?) and her baby had jaundice and had to be in the nicu for 5 days. I just want him to be healthy, but I wouldn't mind him coming early either!

I know I was induced early for my girls because they were getting so big and I wanted natural birth so they didn't want to wait, however both ended in emergencies which is why I have elected to have scheduled c section to hopefully eliminate emergency situation again. However, my doc said not before 39 weeks no matter how big which scares the heck out of me and they just keep telling me if i go into labor they will stop it but i don't like it cause the whole point is not to go into labor and end up in emergency again. We'll see.

I was induced at 36 weeks 5 days. I had preeclampsia though that turned into full blown eclampsia. My doctor really had no choice. I started having seziures and they were really afraid of a stroke. When my son was born he was jaundice, but other than that he was fine. Doctor told me to put him by a window (he was born in June) and let the sun hit him for a few days. That's what I did and when I took him back to the doctor his levels were slowly dropping. He never had to go under the lights in the hospital.

I was induced at 39 weeks with my first and 36 and change with my second. Other than some jaundice that we took care of at home with a Billy blanket they were just fine. Inavree with the above statements that sections are done early so mom does not go into labor.

C-sections r scheduled earlier when there is a risk of some sort. Usually is when the doctor doesn't want the expecting mother to go into labor by herself.
Jaundice has nothing to do with the baby coming early.The baby can be born at 42 weeks and get it too.It's quite common actually.

Usually there is always a reason both for c-section or induction.They won't do it for fun.Not here at least.I can't just go see my doctor and ask him to be induced or have a c-section.

the csection is scheduled earlier after ur first pregnancy resulted in csection before they dont want to risk the mom going into labor then resorting to another emergency csection

My c-section is scheduled for 36 weeks because my last pregnancy I had what they call a J incision. They did the regular incision to get out baby A but baby B was to small and in a precarious spot, so they had to do a vertical incision as well to get her out. So now they don't want to risk the baby getting to large, or my going into labor because I have a high chance of my uterus rupturing.
