I thought a few of you had mentioned at some point about being induced previously. Would you be willing to tell me your story? Good or bad, I don't care. I want to be able to prepare. Thanks!

Mine was bad. My water broke 3 weeks early but contractions didn't start so they introduced Pitocin. From that point I was in the worst pain of my life. Epidural didn't even dull the pain. dd's heart rate started to decline and she wasn't coming back and I was rushed for an emergency c-section after about 9 hours of the pitocin pain and it not working. Failure to progress and I got a fever/sick while I was laboring. dd came out with diff/not breathing and they rushed her to NICU where she spent the next two weeks.
It was awful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
I was induced with my son at 37 weeks after being on bed rest for 5 weeks and going back to work for a week. I just couldn't keep my swelling down and I was ready! It wasn't the best experience for me, but of course, I got a sweet result out of it.
I went in at 6:00 am and didn't deliver until almost 5:00 pm. They started me out on the Pitocin right away. That stuff's EVIL. Within a couple of hours, contractions began and they didn't let up (it seemed) until he was born. It brings them on hard and fast! I wasn't prepared for that, since DD was such a natural birth. With her, I labored on my own at home and went it to the hospital when contractions were closer together. I felt like the Pitocin didn't give me the opportunity I had had with DD to gradually get used to the increasing intensity of the contractions.
With DD, I went completely natural. I feel that this was because my body did what it was supposed to do in the time it needed to and I was able to work with my body and with the pain. With DS, it was the induction with Pitocin and I was so disappointed that it eventually got to be too much for me and I asked for the epidural. I had really wanted to go as natural as possible again.
This time, I'm hoping and praying for as natural an experience as possible. I sure hope it goes better for you than it does for me. Don't be unprepared, and don't feel bad about asking for any pain relief. Remember that it's all about that sweet LO and your comfort and what's best for you at the time. Keep us posted!!
I went in for an induction at 12am. Was on pitocin from 12am to 7pm with NO progress. I ended up with a csection. Trey spent the next 4 days in the NICU but im sure it was unrelated. He had fluid in his lungs and his sugar was critically low.
All in all, i can't really say anything bad about pitocin, other than, it didn't work well for me. But i think it had more to do with the fact that i was on procardia for high BP. Procardia also happens to be used to stop contractions in preterm labor, so i think i was kind of fighting an up hill battle.

I was induced at 38 weeks because of my blood pressure. They gave me cervidil at 9 in the morning, and told me it could take 12 hours to get contractions started. They don't let you walk around when you get cervidil so I was in bed what seemed like forever. Around 8 at night I started having contractions, and my midwife checked me & I was dilated to 5, so she pulled the cervidil out. Then my contractions became extremely unbearble, and right on top of each other. I couldn't believe how close they were together & how long & painful they were. My son was was born at 1145 that night. I went into labor on my own with my daughter, that was painful back labor but this was worse.
Everyone's labor is different, but I definetly don't want another one.
I was with dd2. They placed half a pill next to my cervix. Didn't take long to start working and that's all my body needed. It was pretty intense how fast my body we.t from not in labor to bam in labor. The amount of time I was in labor was actually less then dd1. I say the only thing about it that I didn't like was how quickly my body went from no pain to intense pain. If I have to be induced again they will use the pill with me again. You can talk to you ob about how they are wanting to induce you. Best of luck hun! I hope my story helped.

I say it was an induction because of the pitocin.
I had a VERY similar experience with my last pregnancy. My water broke, they waited 10 hours then started pitocin. I HATE that stuff and was really looking forward to doing everything in my power to NOT get it this time. I guess I'm out of luck now That's really scary what happened with your dd. This is the kind of thing I'm afraid of. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your story with me I have had Pitocin before and I know how bad that stuff is. I've already warned my DH that if they give me pitocin, the epidural won't be far behind. I hope you get the natural birth you want.

Wow I wonder if they didn't take that into considearation before trying pitocin. One of my fears is the induction won't work and I will need a c-section. Thanks for sharing

I'm REALLY glad you are posting about Cervadil. I was really considering asking my OB about this rather than Pitocin but it doesn't sound like it's any easier on your body. I hope you get your natural birth Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your story with me Do you remember what the pill was? I would certainly be up to trying that vs. Pitocin.

Mine went pretty good. My first I was induced at 39 weeks. Labor was long being it was my first baby so I did get the epidural bc pit contractions are strong. But I actually started cramping the night befor from the cervidel they give you to soften the cervix.
I had the same with my second. He was 36 weeks. They have me the cervidel the night before and it started cramping. The next day they started pitocin and exactly two hours later my little guy was here.

I was induced at 41 weeks 3 days. They put a pessary (its not cervidil, but something similar) into my cervix at 10pm. at 10.15pm i was having contractions every 3 minutes and lasting a minute (i was on the trace monitor so they were definite contractions!). the pain wasnt too bad, but it felt very panicky.
at 4am i was 3cm dialated and i went to the labour room as they couldnt give me any pain relief in my room (no doctors to sign off on it). So i went down and had some gas and air and some pethadine. the contractions were very intense at this point, every minute lasting over a minute and i was still only 3cm. I dont remember being very lucid, and dh says i was totally gone. The midwife recommended the epidural at around 5am. So i got it and it was wonderful! I was sill contracting pretty fiercely and the babys heartrate was doing well, so they just left me at it.
at noon, i was ten cm. they left me for an hour to rest or until i felt more pressure and to let the baby come down a bit on his own, and i started pushing at 1pm. I pushed for 2 hours, but they came to the conclusion that he was actually stuck and it wasnt anything i was doing. So they gave me an episiotomy and he was born by a ventuse 17 hours after labour started. He was perfect!
So while it wasnt smooth sailing, it wasnt traumatic or anything. I wouldnt chose to be induced again, but i wouldnt be upset if it had to happen.
I would def ask if you can have the pessary first, it might work on its own and if not then it could make the pitocin more effective. good luck hun!

Wow Robyn it doesn't sound like it was too bad for you at all. Thank you for the recommendation. I will definitely check into it. Thanks for sharing

I had a pain med free Birth with pitocin so IT can be done ! I will not lie pitocin makes contractions hurt like He!!, but if you have your mind set to it is it worth it.
i was induced at 41 weeks with my DD
I went in the night before and got the gel to try and soften my cervix (can't remember what it's called). I went home and came in the next morning for the pitocin.
They hooked me up at 7:30am and it took me until almost 12:00 to be dialated even 1 cm so they could break my water. Until they broke my water I felt the pain was manageable, after they broke my water it was much more intense.
I'm a wimp, I wasn't able to handle it without drugs. I got morphine first (which was wonderful - I actually got a little bit of sleep) and when that wore off they tried the laughing gas (didn't do anything for me) and then when I got to 4 cm (7pm? I asked for an epidural). They put the epidural in at 7:30ish and by 8:30 I was at 9cm. I had her at 9:15pm (with help of a vacuum - but that's b/c the cord was around her neck and she was in distress - nothing to do with being induced).
I found the contractions intense and hard, but I have nothing to compare it to. Overall the experience wasn't too bad (though being a wimp - the first thing I said after I had her was that she was going to be an only child! LOL)
I was induced twice i don't remember the first time very good, but i do the second time around. So with that one it wasn't planed i went into the hosp way to early so they started the meds and it was slow, i had stopped dilating at 7cm and by that time i had 2 choices either keep laboring or c-section. So i chose laboring the baby wouldn't drop that's why i was stuck, so i sat up it hurt like hell but it got him down and out. i had went in that night at 8pm, and never had him till 5am the next morning i find inducing makes you labor longer and more painful.
Thank you for sharing your story with me Do you remember what the pill was? I would certainly be up to trying that vs. Pitocin.
I believe it was either Cytotec or Cervidil. I remember that it desloved...which one it was I'm don't really remember however it's in my chart. My next appt I can ask however I think you may be induced before then. You can still bring it up to your OB.
I was induced with my first baby due to high blood pressure (not Pre-E, though). I was already contracting and they broke my water to see if that would kick the contractions up a notch. It didn't so I was given Pitocin...which worked. I went from 5cm to complete in 15 minutes!! I was in labor for 7 hours, pushed for 35 minutes.
I did not have an epidural (or any other pain medication), and yes, the contractions hurt, but I was determined and focused and got through it. I feel like my labor with DS2 hurt just as much and that was without Pitocin. (Of course, he was 2 pounds bigger than DS1, so maybe that's why..?)

That's awesome that you were able to do that Donna! I'll keep you in my thoughts when I'm going through everything. Thanks

Wow, for a first time labor, it sounds like you handled everything well I was dilated 1 cm at 32 weeks so I'm hoping everything just moves along and doesn't take very long. Thanks for sharing

I stopped dilating at 7cm with my first and that's when they started Pitocin. That's another fear I have, that it's going to take forever to have this baby since they are evicting her against her will lol. Thank you for sharing

I was induced two or three days before 37 weeks. I had Pre-E that was turning into straight up eclampsia so my doctor had no choice but to get baby out. They started the Pitocin at 8 o'clock in the morning on a Monday. It took about an hour or so before I started feeling strong contractions. I labored like that for about 6 hours. Around 3 o'clock they offered me an Epi and I took it. I did nothing! Didn't work, at all. After the Epi they broke my water and that's when the contractions became VERY intense. Around 10 o'clock that night my blood pressure was like 190/130 and I started to have seziures so they started giving me Magnesium Sulfate (I think that's what it's called). Around 11 or 11:30 that evening they gave me another epi, which didn't work. I had very intense contractions, back to back, for several hours. I started pushing at 5 in the morning on Tuesday morning and he was finally born at 6 o'clock Tuesday morning. I know my labor wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't have Eclampsia and I don't really have anything to compare the intensity of the contractions to as he was my first child. I'm definitely going to try to go on my own this time. I've already talked to my midwife about things I can do to bring on labor, once I get full term, but I only have until 39 weeks. Doctor already said I will be induced at 39 weeks AT THE LATEST.
Good luck to you and no matter what happens when it's all over you will have the most precious gift ever and it will all be worth it!!!
