How are things going for the ladies doing baby-led weaning or partial BLW? For the ladies not BLW, have you given your babies bigger chunks of food yet? If so, what types?

How is Leila doing?
Elinor is doing great so far! No scary gags yet. She loves pretty much everything especially watermelon and tofu. The only problem is whenever we eat ANYTHING she goes wild trying to get it. We save to save treats till after she goes to sleep

I give Lina bites of things I'm eating, lat night she had chunks of watermelon. The other night she had some sausage gravy. Tonight she had some bites of pasta. Now when my hands come near her face she automatically opens her mouth, lol

You guys are brave, I am really terrified of giving him chunks I'm not against giving him what we're eating (he tried almost all purees & doesn't seem to have any intolerances) , I'm just scared of the choking factor. How do you overcome that?
He also goes wild trying to get my food, but I'd let him "suck" on fruits (watermelon, apple, pear, etc.) so he gets the juice out, but I am scared giving him actual little pieces.

I just kind of let her have things at first like these little puffs that dissolved in her mouth so she learned to chew and then just went from there. I know you aren't totally crazy about mesh feeders, but those might help stimulate chewing so he gets used to chewing things when he puts them in his mouth?

Oh! I forgot to answer you Caitlin! Leila is doing pretty good tonight she had a "southwestern" black bean salad that we ate with brown rice and chicken. The only thing she didn't eat was the chicken but she gobbled it all up! I set some aside for her to eat. She also played with apple slices today and ate some avocado for breakfast while I was making the salad

when I read the baby led weaning book it explains that a babies gag reflex is actually in the middle of their mouth not in the back. So when they gag it is very rare that they are in danger of actually choking.

I was terrified too! But my hubby started giving him big stuff and he does so gooood with it all now. He definitely likes our food better than the jar food we give him, so we do both Ive been making sure I make food for dinner that i want/dont mind him eating too that way he gets used to it. He chews so cute lol

Levi is definitely interested in our food. He demands it actually, but he doesn't really like it once it is given to him. So it isn't really going all that well, haha!

Jonathan gags on anything that is not pureed finely or thinned into a liquid. I made some sweet potatoes that barely had texture to them and he gagged and cried. He is just now getting to where he'll open his mouth for solids. He's not too interested in our food yet either. I gave him a spoonful of chicken broth from our chicken and dumplings and he could take it or leave it. Definitely different from my other kiddos.

Cute video! I haven't tried but am considering it. Nathan is so meh on purees and I'm not sure if it's b/c he's not interested or because it's too thin. I gave him strawberry in a mesh feeder and he went to town on it. I let him suck on my fruit when I have it and he enjoys that too.
My biggest problem is that I'm afraid of the gag/choke factor too.

Madison is doing great with BLW. No choking either. I've been giving her earth best purees at night before she goes down just because I can't satisfy her at night anymore and that way I know she is getting a little more than if she fed herself.

Aliisa cute video! We give Brea tastes of our food she is def. interstested in our food more than hers. She gags on more of the drier foods.

Hailey LOVES food, anytime we eat she wants to eat..Tonight I was lazy and made chicken nuggets and mac n cheese and i gave her about 1.5 pieces of chicken nuggets and some mac n cheese (both just the macaroni noodles and with cheese on it) and she was yelling at me I wasn't giving it to her fast enough..she loves food. she only has 1 tooth and it's not completely through but she gums the food and chews it up nicely and swallows!! She's had mashed potatoes, pork, chicken, and even ground beef, pizza crust..

Well, I've tried the puff things that are supposed to dissolve...but he chokes every single time he has one?!?! So, I'm terrified to give him anything else. He does well with the purees I make him though.

I didn't know you could start table foods so early! I've only given him little bites and pieces, like just a dip of my pinky in something. He does "chew" his pureed food though, maybe we should start. Hmm...
