So I've decided to Formula Feed. I didn't with DD at first, I tried to BF and it was a nightmare. I've thought about this since day one and Ive decided on FF. I'm definate about it so I dont want any lectures or anything.

I want to know what to expect this time around.
How fast does the milk go away?
Do you leak like you would if you started BFing?
Do they engorge still?
What formula is best for newborns?
Do I take my own or use what the hospital has?
Any bottle recommendations?

I'm right there with you!! I can only answer based on my experience, and i'm sure everyone is different, but here is what happened to me with ds:

How fast does the milk go away? It took 3-4 days to really come in and was gone about a week/10 days after that.
Do you leak like you would if you started BFing? Yes - stock up on the padsDo they engorge still? Oh yes
What formula is best for newborns? They are all really similar. I used Enfamil with dh but will use Similac this time because i got some for free. Also, I spoke with a nutritionist recently who said the generics are exactly the same as the brand names (each indicates which it is like) and will save a ton of money so i may switch to the one like Similac once my free supplies run out. With dh we had to go to Gentle Ease, the Enfamil version for babies with reflux, so don't stock up with too much before baby comes
Do I take my own or use what the hospital has? Use what the hospital has - they should have both of the big names. Also, they will generally send you home with some.
Any bottle recommendations? I used Dr. Browns. A pain to clean but supposedly better for gas in the belly.

How fast does the milk go away? No personal experience.
Do you leak like you would if you started BFing? Yes from what I'm told, but no personal experience here. Do they engorge still? Yes from what I'm told, but again, no personal experience here.
What formula is best for newborns? Pretty much anything out there today is just fine, and switching formulas suddenly is also not harmful in any way. But I've been told it's unwise to stock up on any particular brand ahead of time just in case baby has an allergy or just doesn't like that particular kind. I signed up for free promotional stuff from both Similac and Enfamil, so I'll have some of both on hand.
Do I take my own or use what the hospital has? What Becca said.
Any bottle recommendations? Dr Browns is supposed to be THE best, but regardless of brand the most important thing to look for is "BPA free". You can also find really good sales on Dr Browns sometimes, but otherwise they are pretty spendy.

I'm not a BTDT mom, but I did a lot of research on FF before I decided that I definitely want to BF (no judgment about your choice here!) and I plan to keep some formula and bottles on hand just in case.

I'm not much help because I didn't ff until I had to supplement with DS for his reflux.
But I had to add that at the hospital my sister was asked which formula she wanted him to use when she was admitted. They carried the major brands and then the sensitive ones in case they don't handle it well. They asked if she was going to nurse she said No and that was the end of the story.
If you plan on using daycare check what they use. Mine supplies the infants with Similac and since it's included in tuition if we have to FF, I will end up using it.

I am a 100% FF! (high five)

I want to know what to expect this time around.
How fast does the milk go away? I never produced any with B, so I am not really sure.
Do you leak like you would if you started BFing? I didn't badly
Do they engorge still? My boobs got really big and hard, but never really leaked much and it was gone really fast. They never hurt or anything like that.
What formula is best for newborns? I 100% reccomend Enfamil Newborn. It has been researched and it more like breastmilk.
Do I take my own or use what the hospital has? I would use what the hospital has. They will more than likely give you Similac, but you can switch cold turkey to whatever brand you choose at any time. The formula that they provide for you will be in individual prepackaged bottles.
Any bottle recommendations? A lot of people will recommend Dr. Brown bottles to you...I DO NOT recommend these. They are expensive, there is soooo many parts to clean and you have to have special brushes to clean most of those parts, but more importantly, THEY LEAK BAD. I used them for a long time with Bella, and switched to Playtex Ventaire (which uses the same nipple as the Dr. Browns) and LOVED them!

Another thing you might want to think about is your water supply. Will you use tap or buy nursery water. We buy nursery water because our tap water is horrible here. Since I do not drink it, I will not give it to Chloe.

I don't drink our tap water either. Makes me sick. (prob cuz of my IBS but not sure) So the baby wont get tap water either. I think they sell the nursery water at costco, I like to buy things we use most in bulk. Thanks for the good advice! =) I really appreciate it!

How fast does the milk go away? Mine took about 4 or 5 days
Do you leak like you would if you started BFing?oh yeah...lol
Do they engorge still? Mine didnt to bad
What formula is best for newborns? Like the other ladies said they are all pretty much the same unless you need special formula for a bad belly but I used goodstart with DS and will use it with this baby as well.
Do I take my own or use what the hospital has? The hospital will ask you what kind of formula your going to use and they usually have it on hand and will give you some for use in the hospital and some to take home.
Any bottle recommendations? I used playtex ventiair then dr browns both with DS and he didnt like either one so we switched to the NUK air system ones and he liked those alot better. It really depends on what baby likes...lol

Just as a heads up I was told by DS dr not to use nursery water until there 6 months b/c it has floride(sp?) in it so we used gerber water for the first 6 months then switched to nusery water at 6 months.

How fast does the milk go away?
Mine came in around 4 days pp, but didnt fully go away until dd was around 5 mths old I did try to bf her, so thats probably why lol

Do you leak like you would if you started BFing?
Yes, with both kids

Do they engorge still?
YES. When my milk came in, engorgement was bad! They were HUGE and felt like they were full of rocks Both kids

What formula is best for newborns?
Trial and error, baby lol. You may have to try a few before you find one that is tolerable

Do I take my own or use what the hospital has?
A lot of hospitals have any formula you want on hand. I would check ahead before you go into labor

Any bottle recommendations?
This is a tough one lol. Babies can have a preference, and you could end up going through 10000 different bottles before they find one they like. Ds could use anything, but dd had to have the playtex nursers, or she would spit up every time.
