I haven't had mine done yet and I'll be 28 weeks on Friday. Is there a cut off in pregnancy when you can't be tested for it?

no cutoff, but at this point in pregnancy, it will have an effect on the size of the baby. GD babies tend to be pretty large, so knowing now will help you make dietary changes, etc. to keep the baby from being a porker or causing other problems.

GD has the biggest affect on pregnancy in the third trimester. I think I was tested at 24 weeks but I know several of our girls are just getting tested within this last week, so dont feel like you are too late. Ditto to Marti in that GD can cause a large baby so it is most important to track now, since babies start packing on the weight in the third trimester.

Around 24-28 weeks is when the issue hits its peak, which is the main reason for testing at this point. Waiting will not make the results any less so and as others have said can start to have ill effects on mother and child. The earlier the diagnosis is better the better outcome for both.

I had my 1 hour done with Leila around the normal time but then I switched OBs and somehow in the mix no one cared to note that my one hour was bad. It was several weeks down the road when the issue was caught and I was given the 3 hour test which I failed as well. She was 9 lbs 9 oz but who knows if that would have been her size regardless considering her brother was 12 pounds and I did NOT have GD with him. I don't think the delayed testing had any more of an effect than letting me stay in my ignorant bliss a little while longer.

Thanks ladies, I was reading all the replies in the other thread and it got me thinking my OB must have forgotten me or something lol. I go in on the 3rd so I'll just ask about it then. It was mentioned a while ago but I've had so many follow up appointments from being in the hospital that I think it just got lost in there somewhere.

My DD was 8lbs. 1 oz and she was early, a 12lber would scare me to death! Did you deliver him vaginally?
