I've been thinking about what to expect when having a boy. I doubt my DH ever thought he would know all the words to the Beauty and the Beast and Tangled movie songs. Or that he would let his daughter cover his hair with pink hair bows. I don't think his cousin imagined getting his nails painted pink - and then have it posted on Facebook. So I'm wondering what new things I will learn/do with a little boy.

Lurking from the February DDC... I have 3 little boys already and I can tell you to expect a LOT of dirt, cars, loud toys, stinky socks and shoes, knowing all the words to Cars 1 & 2 as well as the ninja moves from Power Rangers and best of all- boys are the most mom-loving creatures on Earth. They think we hung the moon and can do ANYTHING! It's awesome. Congrats!

I've wondered this stuff as well! I think I'm most scared of dealing with bugs in pockets.

I know that my son has always been more cuddly than my daughter. She's very independent whereas he's more needy, then again he's only 2 so I'm still learning as well lol.

i grew up with all sisters, learned what I know about boys from my husband and son. Thankfully you learn as you go!! My firstborn was a girl, and then to have a boy, well, if anything, can be said from my experience so far, is that learning about my son helped me fall more in love with my hubby. I get now that some things about them (males in general) are just exactly how they are made.

Haha ... I had a little boy at school bring in a little baby frog in his pocket! I was like "GET THAT OUTA HERE!!!" and I got so tickled at him, but was so glad at that moment that I'm having a girl. lol

Wow, my boys are so different and I cannot even imagine what the third will be like ...lol.. My first one is so gentle and kind and listens and he is techincal. He liked computers and trains/cars from early on. He loved TV and he never broke his toys or had crazy tempertantrums. Now he does Karate, soccer and basketball. My second one is a beast!! A BEAST..lol. he has no interest in cars really or tv he likes music (yes we have drums, guitars, baseplayer, etc) he likes to put on concerts and he does not mind getting his hands dirty like the first who gets digusted by it .. He is so physical and rough and has many meltdowns through tthe day. The one thing they really have in common is their love and dependence for me but the first was a lot more attached at the hip. All this to day that boys are so different just as I am sure girls are and you can't expect anything because its not a gender thing as much as a personality thing.. I LOVE MY BOYS!!! bring on the third..

Every child is different. My son is much more clean and organized than my daughter. He is more careful and cautious. You would think the opposite. He loves to read and play quietly where DD likes to make giant messes. Just roll with the punches and accept the kids as who they are, not what society expects them to be.

My 4 1/2 year old knows every word to Beauty and the Beast and Peter Pan, but instead of favoring the princesses, he's obsessed with the Bad Guys. He loves cars and trucks, superheros and sports. And oddly, these were never things we pushed on him as we wanted him to develop his own likes and dislikes.

I'm expecting lots of princesses and dress up in my future though

ITA!!!

Also, remember that your child isn't going to pop out of you holding a baseball bat in one hand and a frog in the other...kids develop interests gradually, just as they have different developmental stages for things like crawling and talking and such. You don't have to have your child figured out the second they pop out! When he gets here, he will need love, milk, shelter, etc. and that's about it.
