So Holland hates to lay flat on her back unless someone is holding her. She did okay at the hospital and for the first few nights at home and slowly it's become a battle to get to her lay on her PNP at night. I can feed her, swaddle her, put her down and she stays asleep for about 45 minutes before she's waking up. I've been bringing her into the bed with me for the next hour or so until she's ready to eat again but I really don't want to start that habit. We also end up sleeping I the nursery together, me holding her in the glider...so I feed her about three times a night so at least I'm getting about three hours sleep...lol

I think the problem is we have a graco newborn sweetpeace soother thing. She LOVES it. It rocks, plays music and she's a happy camper. It's at an incline and has this little head rest thing and she will sleep in there for hours until I wake her to eat. I think she just feels so cozy and secure in this thing, than I put her in the PNP and she's flat and just swaddled and she doesn't feel secure enough.

So I tiled the PNP mattress with two towels and this worked for 1 night...

Last night I slept on the sofa while Holland slept in the soother! And I hate that, I hate sleeping apart from SO and the fact that we are creating this habit with her. I feel like if I let her continue to sleep in the soother when it comes times for her to be in her crib or when she's to big for the soother it's going to be hell!

Oh this was after to took the carrier part out of the soother and put it in the PNP but I didn't feel like that was very safe so I took it back out after about 5 minutes.

So I tiled the PNP mattress more, with a pillow under it. And I took the cozy head rest thingy out of the soother and put it in there, than layed her down. I'm going to try my hardest to not put her back in the soother, just the PNP. So it is currently in the middle of the living room and she's going on 20 minutes laying down without waking up...

I'm just running out of ideas/options here...

We are having similar issues here. How old is your LO? This one generally sleeps fine in the bassinet during the day, but only lasts about half an hour at night, preferring to be held for night sleep. It's frustrating and exhausting and I miss sleeping with my DH. A LOT. It's compounded by DH's belief that I am spoiling the baby and should just let him cry it out. It's hard, I know. We just have to stick it out for a couple more months until they're old enough to understand a schedule. I hope your new plan works out for you!! Hugs. Hang in there.

*lurking* - I'm part of March board but am actually being induced next Wed, so I've been reading some on the Feb board(hope thats OK).

We have this bassinet that I hope will help us if baby is the same way. Both of my other two had bad reflux and propping their mattress up didn't always help. They'd want to sleep in something like their car seat where they were up more. Anyway, the incline is removable in this bassinet so they can be flat if they prefer.

Holland is two and a half weeks old.

I mean is it so bad to let her sleep in the soother thing at night? I'm contemplating giving in and moving it into the bed room so she can sleep in it next to the bed. Or taking out the carrier part and putting it inside the PNP??

I had sleeping issues with Lara and it was a nightmare trying to find something she would sleep in! During the day I let her sleep where ever she would whether it be on me or in the swing etc. At night I persevered with the bassinet (on an incline due to reflux) But it wasn't fun. Looking back I reckon just do what works! even at night time. You might be right about her feeling more secure in a smaller bed space, Id probably try putting the carrier bit into the pnp. Why do you think its unsafe? is it quite snug around her, like turns her face and she could be smushed against the side?
Maybe invest in a bassinet? or bassinet carrier type thing?

That's the thing I'm taking about...and that carrier part lifts out of the base...

I guess I just feel like its not safe to set that inside the pack and play than put her in it...I feel like its to much stuff around her. But I think it's just me being overly cautious. She don't turn much, or move at all when I have her swaddled, and she sleeps for hours in the thing during the day. What difference is there if she sleeps for hours in it at night too?

You know the drs and nurses just scare you so much about them sleeping on their back and stuff at the hospital, it freaks me out to think about doing something different. But my mom just told me a story of her old boss, his daughter would only sleep in her car seat in the car while it was driving...so they would run the dryer for hours on end with her in the car seat ontop of it so it would vibrate and make noise and she felt like she was in a movie car...

I guess whatever works huh?

i bought a fisher price rock n play sleeper for Emily. One, i prefer to put a newborn on an incline myself...just because the whole spit up thing freaks me out. Two, i can put it right next to my bed and hopefully get her before she fusses too much to wake everyone else up. AND its good until they're like 25 or 35 lbs i think! Which she'll never have to stay in there that long, but still... I'm just hoping she likes it. Our son slept in the pack n play bassinet which was a slight incline and soooo snuggly, he would have stayed in there forever. He's still sleeping in our pack n play actually, because he can climb out of bed and it freaks me out to think about him falling out of his crib. So she got a new toy! LOL Something like that might be a good option for you. The other problem we then ran into was when he was 2 months old he started sleeping in the swing for 2 reasons. He got rsv, so then i was very concerned about him choking on drainage or puke, and then he got used to it and would stay up and the only way i could survive was to put him in there awake because i could sleep on the couch and i knew he'd be happy/quiet. He slept in there until he wore out the motor at 9months. So i am trying VERY hard not to do that with her!! I hope you find a solution that works for you!!

I have the fisher price rock n sleeper and I think its working out perfectly. Sitting at an incline for the fussy (reflux) baby and I liked the fact that the weight restriction was higher than a regular bassinet. plus it's really travel friendly.

hope you figure something out soon for your LO.

My child health nurse near slapped me when I told her that I was sleeping Ezra any where but his basinet.
We had issues getting him to sleep in it at night! Turns out that it was his colic/wind waking him, not the bassinet.
And according to our health nurse.. It's generally some thing waking them?

Do you think holland could be suffering colic? Or reflux?
They get releif from having their heads slightly elevated, so if she likes this it could be worth investigating?

We help Ezra pass his wind and he resumes sleep in his basinet!

There were a bunch of girls that used the rock and play sleeper in my last PR. It was especially helpful to those babies that had reflux. Could Holland have a slight case of reflux that makes it uncomfortable for her to sleep flat?

Aubria is the same way, she'll sleep anywhere during the day, but at night she wants to be held, and will never sleep in her basinet. I think maybe bc its dark and quiet? I pray we get this figured out. We need sleep!

I don't think it's reflux of any kind. She has no gas and no spit up ever at all really, and she burps great when I nurse her...I think it's a stability/cozy/snuggled issue. I think she feels all alone and not secure in the PNP.

Are there other kinds of reflux that she may have that I'm not aware off? I mean sometimes she sounds a little stuffy when she's breathing but not anything so bad that alarmed me or the dr...

There is also the newborn napper station I could put back in the PNP but that is very soft and if she turns her head in the slightest she could get pressed up against the head rest...I ripped it out of the PNP the first night because I didn't like how cushy it was...

We'll see I'm trying the carrier inside the PNP tonight and we'll go from there...

I am of the camp where at that age, you just do what works. Dd wouldn't sleep on her back at all. We ended up getting an angelcare breathing monitor and put her on her belly. The first eight weeks she slept on either my chest or dh's chest. Whoever was "on duty" slept on the couch with her. When it came time to finally try out the cosleeper (we got one of those walled contraptions you put in your bed), she had no problems transitioning. It went rather well. Then she transitioned from that to her crib very well later on. Her crib was in our room for the first year. When we finally moved it to her room, again there was no problem.

Now I do know that sleeping with motion (rocking/vibration) they certainly can get accustomed to! So that is a little different. But sleeping on an incline is something you can continue until it is no longer needed.

Girls, I had the same problem with Conor at first. Get a bassinet and a miracle blanket or swaddle me. His problem was A) his hands were coming out and he hated it and B) the pack and play was TOO big for him, he likes to be confined. Please please try it. You need some sleep!!!

the newborn napper is the part tyler slept in. He absolutely loved it and we left him in there until his feet were practically hanging off the edge.
