Amazing, it still hasnt complettely sunk in yet. On Friday, DH and I were on our way to NYC for the weekend because Sunday was our Baby Shower. We had to stop at the Hopsital for a sono to make sure the fluids in my uterus didnt get lower. Wouldnt you know, they were at 4 points, or however they measure it. So, my doc decided it wasnt safe to have baby in there any longer.
Friday at 6pm they started me on something called Colostrum ( something like that ) to soften my cervix in preparation for an induction. At 7am Saturday, they started the pitocin. I had planned on a "natural " birth, BUT......after 6 hours without relief it became impossible. They had broke my water after 4 hours, and it was sooooo intense for me. So, i got an epidural, which btw, was also painful. I was not happy, and I was anxious and ofcorse nervous.
At 4:30 PM I felt the baby's head in my vagina, it almost felt like it was popping out. By this point I was in pain yet again, but they didnt have time for a second epidural. So, I started pushing. I DID have a bowel lol....i thought I would care....I realy didnt. DH handled it well...he only gagged once!!! I found it strange that the nurses were the one coaching me ( asside form DH and Mom who were holding my legs the whole time)...but the doc didnt coe in till 3 minutes before he came out....and they make all the money????? Strange!
At 5:57pm, Matthew Was born. They put him on my belly, and I looked at him in shock. Complete awe that I had actually done this. How unreal. From the hour and a half of pushing, he had a little cone head and its still all bruised, but returning to normal shape.
Unfortunatly, I am home now, without my little one. He has to stay in the hospital for a few more days. They are running tests on him, and they are putting him under a light for some skin thing dealing with red blood cells.
ALSO, I wish someone warmed me that my uterus would start contracting when I started breastfeeding. This was an unwelcome surprise. But, well worth it. We took a million pictures, Ill post a few soon.
I will definatly do this again in a few years despite the unimagineable pain. My little miracle is the most wonderful thing I could have ever imagined. I am overwhealmingly happy.
I'd bet it was Cervadil that they used on your cervix....thats the most common aid for that!
Sorry you weren't able to go as naturally as you planned.....that is always a bummer when plans change.
It sounds like he's doing good though!!! I'm sorry he has to stay for awhile yet. It's probably Jaundice that the lights are for ... very very common especially in earlier babies!
CONGRATS AGAIN!

Sorry, he was 6 pounds, 1 ounce, and 19 inches long! They say that if I went to 40 weeks, he would have been over 9 lbs! Guess Im lucky huh?
Yes, Trina is right, about the cervix thing....thats what it's called. LOL....so manny names for so manny things....too much to remember!
that is absolutely wonderful! Im so happy that everything went well for you. BTW...how painful was it getting the epidural? I heard it wasnt meant to hurt because of the local anesthesia they give before putting the epidural needle in you. And the uterus contracting during breastfeeding? Is it painful as well??
