I stopped breastfeeding for a while at about day 5 because I was finding it so stressful with how much my little boy wanted to eat and how sore my nipples were! They were cracked and bleeding, and the midwife said it wouldn't make any difference if I just expressed for a little while to let them heal as long as he was happy to take a bottle, which he was. I then started feeding about 4 days later again with nipple shields, but he's just never full from what he gets from me and always needs something from a bottle afterwards, even after trying to feed him for over an hour.... At 18 days now, not only will he not latch on unless I'm wearing a shield because he's got so used to bottles (I assume), but I just can't make enough milk for him, no matter how much I try expressing between feeds even....the most I can seem to get out is about 2-3 oz in total from both breasts... anyone got any advice on the matter?? I really want to breastfeed him and it makes me really upset that I just don't seem to be able to, especially when he's crying and he has to wait while I get a bottle ready, but he's on mostly formula now...
