Hi I am new to this board but not to JM. I am having a very hard time breastfeeding. I struggle with low milk supply and have with all 3 of my babies. I also have hyperthyroidism which I think plays a big part in the low milk supply. Nothing I do seems to help. My baby doesnt have the greatest latch either.
I get so frustrated. It seems these days we are using more and more bottles because she is just not full after a nurse. Sometimes she gets enough but most of the time she acts like she is still starving. I have spent a lot of days nursing every hour and it doesnt seem to help the supply. I pumped as well but never could get much out. Less than half an oz. Norah is 2 wks old and I keep thinking it might get better but since I have to give her all these bottles I am not sure the supply will ever come up. I nurse at least every 2 hrs and then she will get 3 to 4 bottles a day.(2 to 3 oz) Alot of the time I am nursing more but when she has a bottle it will keep her full for about 2 hrs.
I feel all I do is nurse and then we still have to give her a bottle. Its getting really hard. I have 2 other children and we also homeschool. We will have to start back homeschooling next week and I have no idea how I am going to have time to do it all.
So how do you stay motivated to keep breastfeeding with a low milk supply and supplementing bottles?
I'm new to this board too, but I wanted to say I know how frustrating it is. I have had issues too. First it was latch, then it was losing too much weight. We started supplementing. I started taking fenugreek 3x a day and I sleep with a heating pad on my chest and was pumping every 2 hours for the first 3 weeks.
My baby is a month old today. We have been using a nipple shield for about 10 days. We are having the same issue as you. She will feel from me...last feeding was almost an hour, and she is STILL hungry and wants 3 oz after she is done with me.
I'm sorry you're going through so much, but wanted to let you know you aren't alone.
