Hi!
There are a couple of ARD/GERD kids here. My daughter, Anika who is 3, has had severe ARD and GERD since birth. How old is Jaidon, and what is his treatment for ARD right now?

Jaidon is 3 months old and so far all I have done is change his formula. He is scheduled to see a pedi GI in January, and he will be on meds but my dr hasnt prescribed them yet.

I just responded to your post on the Breastfeeding board, but I wanted to answer your post here too. If ARD is keeping Jaidon from eating normally (breastfeeding), he needs to be seen sooner than January for meds. That warrants an emergency visit w/ a GI specialist, but even a pediatrician can prescribe Reglan and Zantac for now until you see the GI.

My DD Alexis had acid reflux and couldn't keep anything down when she was a baby. She is now 4 and has pretty much outgrown it. We now give her rolaids before eating spicier meals. She was on meds for it. Is your baby keeping any breastmilk/formula down? Is he gaining weight? If not I would try to get in earlier to see the specialist. Alexis was not keeping anything down or gaining weight and ended up getting extremely dehydrated and had to hospitalized and have an IV to get fluids in her.

I agree with everyone here. Get to that specialist sooner and in the mean time tell your ped. to at least prescribe you zantac. My son has had problems from birth (he is 5 now). I remember that stage of infancy with reflux. Cried all the time. The zantac will at least help a little untill you can get something more. Try to feed him smaller feedings more frequently instead of larger meals further apart. Also get a wedge to put under the head of his mattress to prop him up on a slant when he sleeps. A rolled up large towel will do the trick to. It won't cure it but it can do some help. Be patient with him if he is colicky with the reflux. Know when to just put him down and take a break. I learned that very quickly with my son who cried non stop for 5 months. Its very trying on you at times. I always tried to remember that on top of getting used to the real world he was in pain a lot of the time to which is so unfair to a baby. Lots of luck toyou
