My son is 3 years old, and his foreskin is not retracting at all. I thought by now it was supposed to loosen and start to retract.

We are going for his well visit in a few weeks - we are very later, and I plan to ask then, but I was wondering if anyone else has some input.

According to the AAP, some boys can't retract their foreskins until they are teenagers. AAP PARENTING CORNER Q & A: CARE OF THE UNCIRCUMCISED PENIS I wouldn't worry about it.

That is fine, he may start to retract soon or not for years. All is normal. Whatever you do, do not let the Dr try and retract him at your well visit. The only person to retract should be your son and he will do that when it is ready.

I agree! My DS is almost 3 and cannot retract. It will retract when it is ready, which can be any time during childhood and even into the teen years. Your son is the only one who will know how far the skin can pull back without hurting/damaging, thus noone should manipulate the skin but him.

Please make sure your Ped doesn't retract him. It only takes a second and can be very painful for your DS. Ask your Ped not to touch your DS's penis at all.

I just wanted to say that my Ds is not retractable yet either. I am not concerned. From all I have read - it seems very very normal not to be at this age.

My son is 5 and can not retract. There is no certain age or time frame for it to loosen and retract. Every one is different. It may not happen until he's a teenager.

Some boys may notice that their foreskin retracts when they are very young, others may not notice this until they are well into their late teens. Typically, many boys don't notice that they are able to retract their foreskin until they are in puberty. During puberty the male penis grows significantly and the glans should start to separate naturally from the foreskin.

It's important to understand that the foreskin and glans are a very sensitive area of the male body. No one should ever force the skin to be retracted. The skin should naturally retract on it's own.
