This does not surprise me at all. I work in a medical center where doctors often talk about parents who bring their children in insisting that their child has a problem because they aren't getting straight As or performing at a high level. This incites doctors to try to find something that is wrong with their child, even though they might not have any real problem.
Lurking, but felt like giving some input.
I was 'diagnosed' as ADD many years back, but they never seemed to draw the conclusion of gifted (which I was) plus regular schoolwork= distractable, bored, and "ADD" like.
I think they are misdiagnosing a lot of bored gifted children as ADD.

I completely agree with that one! I was (am) also gifted, and I know there were a lot of really smart kids who didn't make the cut because they were too "misbehaved". I know a lot of kids who did make the cut because their parents were pushy, too.
