Hey Chrystal!

Well my 5 year old daughter has recently been found to have high blood pressure. She went in for surgery on the 3rd for a broken arm and we were told that her leg b/p was way higher than her arms while under anesthesia. We have since re-checked and it continues to be the case. She has an appointment with the cardiologist on 1/24. Does anyone know what this could mean. I can't find any answers on the internet.

Hey! Nice to see you over here... but not for the reason you're here.

You said you can't find answers online. What are you googling, exactly? I googled "pediatric hypertension" and found several things. Here's an organization you may want to check out, and you can email them for a list of local doctors who specialize in this. Has she been tested for diabetes? Is she overweight? Is she stressed out about anything? Overly sensitive to situations or friends at school? International Pediatric Hypertension Association When you email them, I can almost bet you'll be referred here. It's a specialty center for all types of issues. We've been there countless times for both boys. This is the nephrology link. Nephrology

The b/p in her arms is not too worrisome. The b/p in her legs is.....AND it's much higher in her legs....that's what's concerning.

She will be going here:

Ah! That's something completely different, then. I wonder if her veins and arteries are too small in her legs? Does she have any swelling in her legs or ankles? Fluid retention?

If this place doesn't answer your questions, take her to the nephrologist above. I bet they will. Let me know what happens.

I was just lurking, but that's where my daughter goes. Dr. Holt is great. I hope everything went well.
