My son is 15 months old and about a week ago I noticed a small lump on his right side in the occipital area. I took him to his MD and he didn't seem to worried but I am a little nervous that it could be something else. I know that I am probably totally over reacting but he is my only child and god for bid I don't want to see anything happen to him. With that said he did have some vaccinations about 3 weeks ago so I am not sure if this is related or not. Has anyone else experienced this? Let me know.
Did the MD say it was a lymph node?? I don't think there are any nodes there if I understand where you're talking about. If you're not sure, you should certainly get a second opinion, but it's probably nothing. Is it a hard or soft lump? Does he feel pain when you touch it? Does he have any cold symptoms? Getting shots *could* be the cause if it really is a lymph node, because your body is supposed to respond to the foreign bodies introduced by the vaccine.
Yes, the MD said that he is 99% it is a lymph node and just watch and wait. There are several lymph nodes in the back of the neck and lower part of the head. I work in the medical field myself so I even know that it is a lymph node. Anyway, it's been over two weeks and it is still there with no change in size. So at this point I am not going to worry about it anymore.
