I have a 2 year old little boy (just turned 2 a few days ago) who has become obsessed with letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. I'd say this has been a huge interest of his in the last month or two.
He is very affectionate, LOVES to include you in the letters obsession, and does play with other toys and doing other activities, etc. However, his favorite thing right now is letters, shapes, colors, and numbers.
Everywhere we go he is always pointing them out and saying what they are. He is even finding shapes and letters in the abstract (just pointed to our play structure in the backyard and said "brown A"...I looked and the legs and cross-bar of the play-structure did in fact form an A). LOL!
He knows and recognizes all letters (capital and lower-case), numbers 1-10, all colors, and all shapes (including octagon).
It is starting to worry me a little bit. I was just wondering if anyone else out there had/has a toddler with a letter, or color, or shape, or number obsession? If so, WHEN did the obsession end? Wondering if this is just a phase, or something more to worry about, and around what age your child grew out of this?
Both of my kids did this. I wouldn't worry about it. One of them has Asperger's and obsesses about a lot of things, and the other is completely normal, but was still obsessed about those skills. (FWIW, both of my kids are gifted. Does giftedness run in your family?)
