I was in the mall the other day and I saw a daddy carrying his baby in a wrap of some sort on his chest. I sent dh over to ask about it and he said that it was just fabric and it was wrapped up around the baby and that you could see how to do it online. The baby looked snug and tight and secure. I liked the way it wrapped on the shoulders of the person carrying the baby as well. So does anybody know what is this and can you tell me how to use it?

I think it's a Moby wrap. I'll be trying one out myself but have to learn how to use it. There are videos on youtube that will show you how to wrap baby up in it.

They are called slings, and there are MANY different brands and styles. There are lots of video's online on how to use them, and you can even find patterns to make your own

Or it could have been a regular linen wrap too. I'm skipping the moby personally, I've heard they start to sag at about 15 pounds and we are going for a linen wrap.

They do start to sag around 15 pounds Which was about 3.5 months for Will. It was sad! Lasted for 9 months for Eloise though!

allicyn - are you going to try and moby wrap both babies at once? I was thinking of getting some kind of moby wrap thing, but idk how often we'll use it. maybe just for walks...but i wasn't sure if i was brave enough to try it with two!

Just an add on to that "apparently" the Moby D wrap with the cotton insert fixes that issue!

I've seen it done, so I'm sure going to try!! I don't know how well it will work though. I'll for sure use it with at least one though!

I have a moby and they are awesome until they get a little heavier and then I switch to my Mei Tai. But this time, I'm going to make my own. There are lots of no-sew versions to make your own online...much cheaper and larger variety of fabric choices!

I didn't know that but I'm pretty set on a Mei Tai this time and some handmade linen wraps. I'll just skip the Moby unless I'm gifted one.

It could be a sleepy wrap too. I have a moby, a sleepy wrap, and a non stretchy one can't remember for sure what it is but I like the stretchy ones. I've used them longer than the 15lbs but I didn't mind them, but I didn't wear her for hours at that point either, just for a quick trip or something. Once I got my beco butterfly II I used that to wear her on my back and that is awesome! I watched tons of videos online as well. here are some... EASY Sleepywrap (baby wrap) Instructions - YouTube Sleepy Wrap - Basic Tie - YouTube Moby Wrap Instructions - YouTube there are tons of others too! I recommend trying the tying a bunch of times before you try to do it with the baby.

Thanks so much! Those video clips do look much like how he was carrying his baby. So, I would need to buy a special wrap for this to work then? I wonder if I can find somewhere to get those locally. Hmmm . . . I will have to check that out.

Here's a good web site that has free patterns for slings, boppies and other baby stuff. Lots of info on carrying in a sling and such also.
