It seems Alyssa has now had 2 episodes of not pooping, and it really causing pain to her belly. Wednesday and yesterday. She pooped on Thursday night for me after using the rectal thermometer with vaseline, and then nothing until last night. I called her ped after hours and she gave me suggestions. We tried those, and had some poop. She was so upset, and so in pain. We changed the formula from Similac Advanced with Iron to Similac Sensitive. I am not sure this will be the final exchange, I am convinced now she has a very sensitive stomach and will be put on soy. (This is the same thing that happened with Micaela, my 9 year old). I am going to see how today goes, and if another episode happens, I am calling her ped tomorrow and not waiting until Friday- her next appt.

Has anyone else experienced this? I felt so bad for my baby girl, and was crying my eyes out for her...

We had that problem with DS1 and DD. We had to add Karo syrup (1sp per 4oz) to their bottles (per their pedi) until they were almost 9 or 10 months old in order for them to poop regularly. Whenever we tried to stop it they would writhe in pain crying and wouldn't go on their own for days.

My mom said the same thing to me last night, but this was after I spoke to the doctor. Doc said to try prune juice/water. 1:1 ounce. She said to this once a day until we see her next week.

I hope once the new forumla is completely in her system, it might help.
Were your DS1 & DD breast fed?

The prune juice and water is definitely worth a try too. Nope, they were FF.

Ask away!! DS started out on Similac Advance, but was HORRIBLE on it. Then we switched him over to Enfamil. He was better, but wouldn't poop without the Karo. DD started on Enfamil, but she didn't do well at all on it. We switched her to Parent's Choice regular formula, and she did much better. She couldn't poop without the Karo either though.

We're having problems in that department too. She poops but goes about 12 hours between them. We also used to be on Similac Advance but she had terrible gas/spit up so were now on Enfamil Gentlease. Still having problems but I see her Ped on Wednesday and if its not better by Monday I'm calling in, I literally get a heartache when my babygirl cries and draws her legs up in pain trying to go to the bathroom. It's really sad...

The gas and pooping problems are why I'm REALLY surprised that Similac Advanced is working for the twins. It was so harsh on DS1, and now the twins do really well on that but not on the other formulas that worked perfectly for DS1 and DD. I'm thinking of getting this to help with their gas. http://www.amazon.com/FridaBaby-The-Windi/dp/B005IGTTIA

he tries to poop, grunts and turns red and will start crying.

this is funny because he had diarrhea the other day, now he can't poop / fart
and is in pain

I ended up having to take Alyssa to the ER last night due to SEVERE pain she was having, and no end in sight for the little girl. She was crying/whaling/screaming for hours, and nothing we did was working.. So no other choice, off to the ER I went. They did a few xrays of her, and everything internally is fine. Thank goodness. I was concerned about something wrong, as they were based on the feel of her tummy. So, we know its dietary. I am following up with the ped today, and hoping to come up with a game plan of action to take for her. We have switched formula twice Similac Advance w/iron to Similac Sensitive w/iron. I honestly think it is way too much iron for her, and she needs to not have that in her diet at all. She was given relief, so she did have about 3 messy diapers, dark poop too. She had prune juice/water yesterday, so maybe that is why for the darkness.. But, I do know that I can not stand to see my little girl in SO much severe pain.. Her poor tummy was having spasms the ER doc said.. But, she is much better for now. So come on 8:30 when the doc office opens..
