I swear, I am totally miserable. I guess the past couple nights have been worse because I have had a cold - but I wake up at least every 3 hours and get up to turn on the fan or turn off the heater or to pee or water.. It is driving me insane. I used to sleep FULL through the night. I am just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this

I'm definately there some nights. Hate to tell you this, but it just gets worse. My general rule is to give myself about 2 nights like that, and take a half dose or a full dose of benadryl about 7pm. It helps keep me sane.

Yes, ma'am! I am. I get up every few hours too. I thought it was bad last pregnancy when I got up once a night too pee. Now it's like every few hours to pee, or like you said mess with the room temp or because i've had CRAZY dreams, every.single.night since conception.

I've had trouble for a few weeks. I either can't fall asleep or I can't stay asleep. I am sure it contributes to why I'm always so tired.

I'm having the same exact issues... I've found that keeping a bottle of water by my bed helps when I wake up dying of thirst for no good reason. Also, having the fan on facing the wall (not me) helps to reduce the distraction of other noises in the house. I've been wearing and eye mask at night too. I think this stuff helps me sleep deeper and longer or in the case of the water lets me fall back asleep quicker than if I have to get up to find it. We have a dimmer switch in the master bath so I either don't turn the light on at all (if I just have to pee) or if I'm going to be sick then I turn the dimmer on slightly to keep myself closer to being asleep. It seems to help at least some.

Yeah, I don't sleep well either. I was expecting it this time around. I had the same probs with DS. Later in pregnancy with him, DH said that I would wake up and go to the bathroom no fewer than 5 or 6 times. I at least got to where I would fall right back to sleep. Right now, a humidifier has helped some. I also have a full body pillow that is a U all the way around my body. It helps keep me more comfortable. I also have layers of blankets so that I can easily take those off and put them on to adjust for my frequent changes in comfort with the temp.

Good luck to us all!

I haven't slept well probably since we found out we were pregnant. DH doesn't sleep well, so that doesn't help. Last night I got a good nights sleep without waking up til 5, but I know it's because I have only gotten a couple hours the previous nights. It just finally caught up. I'm sure I will be on the couch sleeping for most of the 3rd tri.

Same here. I would skip the benedryl and try some melatonin first.

I read somewhere that melatonin is not good for pregnant women.. I wonder. Bc I love the stuff!

I mean, I guess it makes me feel better that we're all experiencing it ...but wahhh..

Hmmm...my old OB and my current MW both say it's ok to take. I would check with your OB

I asked my doctor about this last week and he said no to everything, especially the melatonin. He said it can cause birth defects. That's really icky since I have issues with insomnia even when I'm not pregnant and it's only gotten worse since about week 8. He said to cut all caffiene completely so no coffee, tea, sodas etc at all. I'm also not supposed to eat or drink anything for at least an hour before bed to lessen the need to get up to pee.

I generally have about 3-4 nights in a row where I have trouble falling asleep and then wake up a few times during the night and have trouble getting back to sleep. Then I have 1-2 nights of "catch-up" where I fall asleep and stay there before going back to no sleep.

I'm having this problem too. Can't fall asleep and can't stay asleep. I answer texts back at 3am and people freak out wondering why I'm up at that time. I think our bodies are just preparing us for the midnight and 3am feedings we will be having in a few months. You will be more used to it then!

Yes I am sleeping terribly. My hips have started hurting so I am tossing from one side to the other trying to get comfortable, then I am up and down peeing.

I'm having a hard time GOING to sleep at night. I'm wound up. I call it pregnancy insomnia. Once I'm asleep I've been staying asleep. So far that is.

Just wanted to add I have to take Benadryl pretty much every night because of my asthma and allergies. The doc says its safe to take. I ask her at like every appointment and she says its fine and much more preferable to a full blown asthma attack from out of control allergies. Much more dangerous to the baby in my situation.
