Yesterday DH and I went on our hospital tour. The hospital is specifically for women and newborns and has a very high-ranking NICU. I have already been there twice overnight in the perinatal special care unit for my complications, so a part of the tour was old news for us, but it was still a very valuable experience.
All of the L&D rooms are spacious, private, and have windows. They have birthing balls and tubs (they don't do water births but encourage you to take a bath or shower to help with labor). The OR is on the same floor as L&D if I have to have an emergency c-section. Another thing I like is that they are big on skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth. They went into this in detail and explained that in case of a c-section or if mom isn't doing well after a vaginal delivery, the baby will be given directly to dad for skin-to-skin
We also saw the recovery rooms, which are also private. They are smaller, but still nice with nice views and windows (can you tell ambiance is important to me lol!!). When they were going over going home procedures I teared up a little, picturing our little family (Me, DH, Chase and Cole) getting all settled in the car for our ride home. Awwww.
So I am very satisfied, the tour guide answered all of my questions, and the facility looks great!
Yeah being there definitely made everything seem more real and more immediate. (as if my growing belly and all the kicks and tumbles aren't already making it seem real lol) It's crazy to think that in 3 months this board will be on fire with birth stories and several babies born already
Thanks so much *Kiliki* for my awesome summer siggie!
