Am I being unreasonable? Our air conditioning has been broken since last Thursday. We notified our landlords immediately. No call back. Nothing. The landlord has been working on a property (painting) ON OUR STREET for a week. We've left 2 more messages. He STILL hasn't come by to check our air and today it was 84 degrees inside (hotter than outside even w/the fans on and windows open!) at the hottest part of the afternoon today.

I'm pregnant. I'm hot anyways. And now I'm just burning up. About to go sit in the car or the van with the air blasting just to cool off. It's making me feel like total crud! I bet they wouldn't be happy if I decided not to pay the rent payment on time....but yet they won't fix our air? We've been here since October, and they've been great landlords to this point but its really getting to me. I think this is something that is EMERGENCY status, not like a leaky faucet or minor repair!

I am SO READY to get DH's grandma's house we just inherited ready and move out of here in October. But we have a long way to go...we have to have an estate sale, build on a bedroom and bathroom, replace the floors, paint, and probably some other minor repairs before its even ready for us to start to move in, and we have to finish our lease here which ends the end of September. *Le sigh...can't wait to be in our OWN PLACE and not paying someone else's mortgage and not even having air to survive ahh!

I would feel the same way! I've had to run our air the last two days. Otherwise I would have been miserable. When we did rent we always were in an apartment. So my landlord experience is different.

Hope it gets fixed asap!

I know this isn't a great solution, but you might look at craigslist for a used window AC unit. We had to do that for our old apartment, and when we moved we sold it on craigslist for the same price we paid for it. With the ridiculous gas prices we have right now it's probably cheaper to pay for electricity than to run the car, and at least you could cool one room.

Yeah we could cool one room that way possibly BUT we are in a 2000sqft house and it wouldn't help a lot even with one room...sigh...

That sucks! Your landlord needs to fix things for you! Does your lease specify what you can do in this type of situation? I know some allow for you to make the repair and deduct that from your rent payment.

Im sorry you are still so hot it must be truly getting old now. If you know where he is working and it's nearby maybe go see him in person. Not being confrontational but giving him "the benefit of the doubt" Say I tried to call a couple times but I guess you arent getting my messages so I just wanted to stop on my way through and let you know the AC hasn't been working for a few days. I will be home on such and such evening so you could come by after you are done here and look at it so we can figure out how to proceed. You can even joke about how miserable you are being pregnant and all. That way he can't ignore you, you arent leaving anything open ended for him to weasel out of, but you arent picking a fight. THEN if he still doesn't fix it you should get legal on his BLEEEEP! lol! Good luck! I hope it gets fixed.

Is a landlord required to provide working AC in Florida

Floridas' Landlord/Tenant Law

Good luck! Renting sucks. That's why we finally decided to buy a home years ago. I got sick of things getting broken or failing to work, and then having to rely on the landlord to fix it.

We're landlords and there is no excuse. He should at least respond. If you see him, you go up to him and tell him the problem to his face so he has no excuses to not respond.
