This is at least 4 months away probably, but I'm thinking about baby's baptism already. We had one at church today and then I saw some photos on facebook of a baby baptism tonight and it made me think about it even more.
What do you plan to do if you're doing anything at all for baby's baptism/dedication/etc.?

There was probably over 20 extra people that came for the baptism today at church and with DS1, no one from our family came, and with DS2 only SIL and her youngest daughter came. I would like the whole family to come, but I guess that will probably only happen if we plan a party after. Would it be tacky to combine it with DS1's birthday in August? DS1 will be 4 and he totally understands about birthday parties. I don't think he'll mind "sharing" it a bit as long as he gets presents and cake too =) What do you think?

If you don't think Aaron would mind, then I'd combine them.

We are Catholic and we do the christening usually around 2 months of age (just our personal preference). Lily was a week over 2 months and Violet was 6 weeks. Our church does baptisms once a month and there are usually 4-6 babies being baptized on that day. We invite close friends/family and the godparents, of course. Then, afterwards we host a dinner for everyone we invited and that's it

We won't be doing anything like that.

I'd say if your son doesn't mind his birthday being combined then you should do the parties together.

DH is a pastor so he can't/won't baptise his own child, so we will be having it done at my home church where my family attends. We aren't sure when yet. We will invite close family, our parents grandparents and siblings only. We will probably just have a little cake after the service. No big party for us.

I think if you said to your family that you are having DS1's birthday party and since they will all be around it seemed like a good day for the baby's baptisim, it doesnt make it tacky it just sounds to me like you are trying to make life convinent for everyone.

We have ours "booked" and planned already. Every year the first weekend of August our church has what is called the "Brats and Crafts Festival" (brats, like what you eat on a bun). The Sunday during this weekend they have a children's service outside under the festival tent for the 9:30 service that day. A christian clowning group called Patchwork Pear comes and puts on the service for the kids/families. We are having our Pastor baptize her during this service and the Patchwork Pear is going to do a new theme all around baptism and growing in Christ. We are super excited! We will invite family and friends and obviously our church to be there for the service and have a get together/lunch at house after.

We are Catholic and we are going to baptize him ASAP ( for us it is important to get it done right away in case something happens to baby unexpectedly) probably the week or two after he is born depending on the Church and how I am feeling, etc.

Anyway, I have been trying to figure out what we are going to do for the party. It will probably be around 20 people. We will probably have the party at our house which will be tight but easiest. I wish I could afford to pay for everyone to go out to eat after but I def. cant...soo...not sure anyway..either way I want it to be nice but layed back. I am waiting until he is born to get his little white suit which I hope isn't a mistake!

We let the child decide when they are ready for a baptism, so we won't be planning anything like that. But I would totally combine it, I think its a great idea!
