My 12 hour shift yesterday was horribly busy and I was having contractions all day even though I was making sure I drank enough water.

So at 7 pm when we got off, I asked Katie one of my favorite nurse friends to check me and strip me if she could reach. She said ok.

I'm a 3-4, still fairly thick effacement wise, but anterior cervix at least. It was posterior last week and hard to reach. She stripped as well as she could, so we will see. The contractions I've had since have been stronger and "different" but its been about 18 hours since and no baby so we'll see if it works in the next 30 hours. I slept well last night even though I was contracting irregularly, thank goodness because I was exhausted.

Wish me luck! If I'm still baby-less by thursday at my appointment I will ask her to re-try. I don't want to be induced.

why would you have to be induced? Wont your OB let you go past your due date?

You need to be patient girl, you are going to drive yourself bonkers! Cervic stretching, membrane sweeps, inductions. LOL Your little girl just isnt ready yet, but im sure she will be soon!!

Thanks, but no thanks. I think even if I had no previously had c/s I would not allow my membranes to be swept, have another induction or my water broken. I would let nature take it's course.

Its a little more uncomfortable than a regular vag check

Is what legal? Membrane sweeping? It's not much more than a regular vag exam we do it all the time

I thought she meant, was it legal to let just anyone do it? My doctor would probably be pissed! lol

Oh haha yes its legal. A labor nurse can strip someone if they want it done. we have pretty great relationships with our OBs that we work with, and my OB would be happy if it worked! Shes one of our favorites. She said last week she didn't expect to see me at my 39 week appointment. But its thursday, so I have a feeling I'll be there. LOL

There are 3 of us dayshift gals that are all due this month. The other two have already put themselves on the schedule to be induced later this month (they arent due til the last week). One bonus of working there is they have to call us to schedule an induction or c/section so they usually just tell the pregnant nurses to pick their own date and let them know. I want to avoid being induced with pitocin, but I don't want to go past 41 weeks so we'll see. With DD I had my membranes swept and went to the hospital was a 4, they broke my water at a 5 and I had her without pitocin. Who knows what this time will bring.

No, I knew membrane stripping was legal....I meant having a random nurse that isn't "your nurse" do it while your not a patient on her end I guess. I know my ex SIL who was a pediatrician wasn't even allowed to prescribe her family medications or friends.

Good luck and I hope it works for you.
