So Cole was born with a strawberry colored birthmark on his side. It was really tiny but has about tripled since birth. I called the pedi and she moved up his 2 month appt to Wed (the day he turns 2 months) so she can take a look at it sooner. Here's a picture of it now next to my fingers for scale (it's still really small):

Do any of your babies or kids have birthmarks? Any like this?

Jacob doesn't have any birthmarks. Let us know what the dr says about Cole's Birthmark. it does look like a little strawberry.

I know with DD she had a birthmark on her face. I did read that some birthmarks will grow bigger before fading away. There are a bunch of different kinds of birthmarks.

My baby sister had one like that on her face that did get bigger. We called it a strawberry mark. It went away eventually, but I forget how long it took. She definitely still had it as a toddler though.

No birthmarks on Kira that I've found yet. Hubby had one like that on his side, though much larger -- he still sort of has it but it's very very faded and you can only see it in certain light.

The only one that had one was Damon. It was a strawberry one on his shoulder blade area. It was shaped like a peanut shell and about that size. It faded eventually. I'm not sure how long it took. If I look real hard I can still see where it was. It's a light white colored version now.

KUP on what the pediatrician says!

Grant has a tiny reddish birthmark, it's just a really small dot. Then, he has 3 Mongolian spots, which are blue colored marks common in Asian babies. Those usually fade away by the time they hit age 3.

Bryson has red spots on his face, Maidson had it as well and it faded.

Let us know what they say about it.

Livi had large bithmarks on the back of her head, one on her eye, between her eyebrows and under one nostril, but they are flat and not raised, but are all bright red. Her pedi has seen and pointed them all out and said they will fade over time.

Is his raised, the fact that its irregular in shape and appears raised on the computer, could be a concern. But hopefully you will get some good news.

Both my girls have a red mark on the back of their neck, they said it's often called a "stork bite," it's quite common. But that's it.

It looks like a little maple leaf. Since it is not symmetrical, your doctor may want to have it removed just as a precaution if it turns out to be just a mark.

Nick has a light brown, oval-shaped mark on his side/chest. It was very pale at first and has slowly gotten darker.

I have a dark brown one on my leg that is exactly the same shape as Nick's (but much larger). My mother says that mine started out very pale like his and gradually got darker and bigger.

Mine grew as I did so I wouldn't be too concerned that Cole's is getting bigger. It never hurts to get it checked just in case. Hopefully it turns out to be just a mark.

Yes it is definitely raised, and the fact that it was raised and asymmetrical is why they wanted us to come in. I'll keep everyone posted!

That is called a hemangioma. It is a malformation of tiny blood vessels called capillaries. It is harmless and will go away on its own with time, although it will probably be a few years before it does. The natural course is for it to get bigger before it finally goes away. The only time it is a concern is when it is on the face near the eye because it could affects vision or when someone has a lot, as this could go along with hemangiomas in organs too.

Hope that helps!
