This is probably a question for BTDT mommies. Have any of you ever made a birthday cake? Jackson's third birthday is coming up and I'm going to try to make his birthday cake. DH usually makes the cake, but he can't get off from work this year so he won't have time to make the cake. DH says that it's easy but I doubt it will be easy for me. How did your cakes turn out if you have ever made one. Was it hard? I'll let you know how it goes.

Cute cake! I love to bake, so I've made a lot of cakes. I'd recommend doing a trial run so you can gauge how long it takes you to make/decorate, etc.

I like to bake but our tradition is an ice cream cake from Baskin-Robbins every year. My parents did it with me (number 29 coming up in October ) and I do it with the kids and DH.

That cake is awesome that DH made. I don't have the patience for the decorating but I love to bake so most of my creations are unfrosted.

Ooooh I am sooo in the same situation, almost, to you... My little boy turns 2 in about 3 weeks and I really want to make him a Little Charley Bear cake, as he loves Charley Bear... But I am absolutely PETRIFIED of doing it.. hehe... Good luck!!

Great job to your DH! My mom makes those types of cakes. I was also going to recommend a trial run, even if it not a shaped cake, but just to practice on a regular cake with the icing etc
