So, many of us have mentioned here or there the going home outfit our LO will wear. I've even thought about it too. But...I don't really get it. I mean, what's the purpose? LOL Because doesn't the baby just go from hospital to car to home? Is it for picture purposes or do you have people at your house waiting to greet you? Or is it just for your own enjoyment? Just wondering if I'm missing something!
Haha, DH just asked me all these same questions the other day when I proudly brought home the "coming home outfit"!!!!
It depends on the family. DD1 had lots of pics in her coming home outfit. First there was the pic of us leaving the hospital, then we had family at home who took a bunch of pics as well. DH pointed out that she wore about 5 million outfits the first few days, so it didn't matter which one she came home in. I like buying a special outfit for the occasion, though.
Oh, and at our hospital the babies just wear a diaper + blanket, so it's also her first real outfit .
For us, it was a keepsake thing. When I came home form the hospital, I wore this light pink dress with a white collar. Well my Mom held onto it, and mailed it to us, and our daughter wore it home from the hospital. It's kind of cool to see the picture of me and the picture of our daughter, in the same exact dress. It's crazy to think I ever even fit in it! This time with the twins, since they can't both wear that dress obviously, haha we're gonna find something special for just them, and they hold onto them and if any of our girls have girl's, we will pass on their coming home outfits! It's just a fun thing to look back on. It's a big moment, bringing your baby home from the hospital, so some moms like to dress them for the occasion
Ok well that's just what I thought then! I'm waiting till after my shower to look for a cute going home outfit. I didn't even think about how they're pretty much only in diapers and blankets in the hospital so this would also be the first time dressing them.
For us it was mostly about her Daddy and I picking out the first thing that she would wear on her first day out in the world. Also, we will be taking lots of pictures.

I actually picked one of the outfits from the shower for DD1. It was all cute with duckies and everything . DD2 will be wearing elephants .
I actually don't remember what DD wore home from the hospital! I'll have to go look up the pictures.
For this little guy I'll just pick a couple of outfits I really like and have them washed and ready for when I go in labor. It's not a tradition in our family.
We just use a cute functional outfit they'll wear again. I plan on letting A&E pick what baby wears from the existing wardrobe.

There are a lot of things that I don't do by the book, but I did get going home outfits. They aren't anything elaborate and are comfortable and functional (i.e., will be used again), but a little more special than a regular onsie. There will be a few photos, and I think its fun to dress the babies up for the "occassion". I also don't buy a whole lot and am very frugul and functional, so it was an excuse for me to pic one nice thing for each of the babies.
If posting pictures didn't take me forever, I'd post.

I'm just picking my favorite sleeper, and a hat that matches. I'll save the sleeper after he outgrows it for the keepsake box. That's about it I won't buy a special frilly uncomfortable outfit for a car ride home.
Like most of the other ladies said, it's mainly for a keepsake thing. We usually do take a lot of pics of the kiddos coming home. It will also be the same outfit she'll wear to her baby dedication at church.
I've asked a friend to help me pick it out...more so it's something that she and I do together (she's the sister of my friend who died two years ago). Otherwise I would probably just put her in a onesie with something that I knit her overtop. But I thought this would be a fun way to include K., who is really excited about the baby.
i love dressing my ds,so i am excited to find a cute outfit to bring ds2 home in,for us it will be his first outfit since he just wears a blanket in the hospital, and we will take pics too

Lol I was just wondering about this the other day. I had never even heard of such a thing until my friend/shower planner mentioned she spent like $130 on her second daughter's outfit at Carter's. I think I'm going to wait until after my shower and maybe choose something I receive as a gift or maybe if nothing "jumps out at me" I'll go buy something. I don't plan to spend nearly as much as she did though, lol!!
I just picked my favorite outfit. Nothing fancy or frilly.. Just a comfy little outfit that was uber soft. I have it in DD's baby box. I'm not sure what I'll do this time. Probably just pick another super cute, comfy looking outfit and save it once he outgrows it.
I lost the onesie that came with the outfit from DD, but I have the pants and jacket.

I don´t get it too much either...
Max went home with one of his sleepers and matching hat that I loved (and still love) but I don´t have a special bonding to that clothing.
I´m thinking this baby will wear the same one :giggles:
