I asked my OB about classes and she says they don't do them until the third trimester. I have a couple of friends who went to the same doctor and tried to sign up for the classes and never heard back, so I think I'm going to really ask for the information when I'm in my second trimester.

It's strange, Robyn, that they wouldn't at least schedule you for classes. They encourage us to take the childbirth classes prior to the 36th week, but they want us to sign up EARLY. I guess they're really popular and fill up fast. Hope you can get something scheduled.

I only worked half a day today. Then I returned our original crib mattress to Ikea. While there, I decided just to look around a little bit. I had really liked a lamp I found online, but the web site said that California stores didn't carry it. So I ended up ordering a lamp from The Land of Nod, to match the crib bedding. When I was looking around Ikea, though, I found the lamp I liked that was supposedly not available. So I bought it too. Once we get everything set up, I'll decide if I want to keep both.

We are definitely painting tomorrow. We've both agreed upon the paint color we like most. It was a no-brainer once we saw it on the walls compared to our other choices. While DH is painting, I'm going to clean and maybe start on that DIY project, just keeping myself busy so I'm not a back-seat painter.

I am having an incredibly bloated day, to the point that it hurts. It stinks to be hungry when so bloated because I don't feel like eating, but I do feel like eating. I also had a really rough night with very little sleep. So I think I'll just get comfy on the couch tonight and let my belly hang out!

I think it's weird my doctor doesn't do sign-up for the classes earlier, too.

I hope the bloating eases up for you soon! I get bloated super easy so I'm kind of nervous about the summer.

Can't wait to hear about the progress in the nursery and see pics!!!

Well, we did make progress in the nursery today, but definitely not as much as we would have liked. After making our decision about the paint, we went to bed. I didn't sleep well again last night. I've been struggling with insomnia all week. While tossing and turning, I kept thinking about the paint. When I woke up, I went into the room to look at the three different colors on the wall, and I just didn't like the one we had chosen. I felt like it had a little too much purple in it. We wanted a very light gray, but the tint is hugely important. I had a fear that if we painted the entire room, it would really look light purple instead of light gray. If anything, we want a bluish-gray, not a purplish-gray.

So I decided to paint over the other two swatches that I knew we didn't want (because they were a little bit too dark, though a more appropriate hue). Then I walked away and made us breakfast. When I went back into the room, it really struck me as more of a lilac-gray than a blue-gray. So instead of going to Lowe's to actually buy the paint, we went to Lowe's to buy a couple more paint samples to see if we could find another one that we really liked. We ended up picking two... one that DH thought would work well and one that I thought would probably be better.

The progress we made in the nursery was to take off the closet doors (they are sliding doors), as well as the existing hanging rack inside the closet. That was quite a job, as the contractor used some interesting methods to ensure that the shelf was not easy to remove! We also put up painter's tape so the room is prepped and ready to go. After letting the two new samples dry, DH and I agreed without a doubt that we liked the one I had picked. Either one would probably be fine, but one definitely edged out the other. It's a very light gray that has a blue-greenish tint. When I held up the bedding beside the paint on the wall, it looked really nice.

DH doesn't want to paint tomorrow, so we'll be postponing until next Saturday. At least we'll be totally ready to go though. I know we still have plenty of time, but I just want to get the painting done so we can start assembling everything else. I'm taking pictures throughout the process, so I hope to share some progression pics in a week or two.

If only I wasn't so anal-retentive about such things! However, at least I know our little boy won't grow up in a purple room.

Lol, I think it's good to make sure it's not a purplish color, too!

The upside of being picky about the color now is that you aren't likely to regret it later!

Yes! We could have potentially wasted $50 on paint, only to have to buy more and spend all the time re-painting. I just looked at the two different colors again, and it's so obvious that our new one is perfect.

23 weeks

I added my weekly pics to the first post.

Today was a fairly lazy day, other than a couple of loads of laundry, a little house cleaning, and making dinner tonight (pork chops, a garden salad, and mini corn muffins). I got quite a bit of sleep last night for the first time in a week. I hope the insomnia is over, but I doubt it.

Jack has been really active all weekend, which just makes me so happy. Of course, when I wake up at night, he has a heyday. I'll take it, though. I love just lying in bed and feeling his kicks and punches and rolls.

You know, it's funny. I told DH that I imagined Jack was having a growth spurt. Several times throughout this pregnancy, I have had increased symptoms out of nowhere. And I wonder if he's just hitting his stride at certain times. It's hard to imagine that he's the length of a ruler... a whole foot from crown to heel. Crazy!

My belly itself keeps getting rounder and rounder. When I do the "suck-in" motion, it's so apparent where the uterus is and how much it's grown. For the past 6 weeks or so, I've averaged gaining about 1 pound each week, which is about what they say happens in the second half of pregnancy. So I'm on pace to gain 27 pounds, though I imagine I'll gain more toward the end. My goal was to keep it under 35 pounds, so we'll see.

Wow! That's so long already! That's funny that you can almost feel growth spurts with symptoms.

I think it's great you're able to keep pace within their guidelines for weight gain. I'm hoping to get on better track now that my nausea is lessening. I went grocery shopping today and 90% of my cart was full of fruits, veggies, and yogurt!

Little guy is growing! Your progression looks really nice, it's true there are some weeks where there's a big "jump" and others where you don't change that much.

23 weeks & 1 day

Today was so busy! It's always nice when a Monday just flies by, but I also wish I would have gotten even more accomplished. I have a feeling this whole week is going to pass with the blink of an eye. That's cool, though, as I get to see Jack again next Monday. I'm hoping for a beautiful, fluid-free pair of kidneys and ureters!

I went to a baby shower today for a co-worker who's due in July and having a baby girl. It was a nice little shower. I'm not sure if it's a taste of what's to come for me or not. By that, I mean that my office was the only office that actually bought her things from her registry! Some groups did pool their money and purchase gift cards for her. Everyone else, though, just bought whatever they felt like. There were a lot of cute girly clothes as gifts, which are always needed. This is one big reason why I haven't gone crazy clothes shopping. I just assume that's the majority of what I'll receive at my shower.

I had an oddly un-hungry day today and had to force myself to eat (all except the chocolate cake at the shower, that is). Not sure what that's all about, as I've been really hungry for the past week. I'm feeling the effects of an active weekend (and lack of iron since I stopped the supplements), as my muscles are sore and my mid-back is really achy. I'm feeling incredibly tired today as well, so I'm going to just relax on the couch for the rest of the night while we watch TV.

I was told not to buy clothes because you get so many as gifts that the baby can't even wear them all before they grow out of it. It kind of stinks, though, because you want to buy clothes for your little baby, too!

I keep wondering where you came up with your username from. How did you come up with Junie?

June is my middle name, and my dad's nickname for me is Junie. And 22 has always been a lucky number for me (and the day of the month I was born). When I first set up an account on JM, I didn't want anything that identified me, so I used junie22 and didn't use my pic. That stance changed after a while, but I kept the user name anyway.

23 weeks & 2 days

I woke up this morning about 30 minutes early because Jackson was practicing his acrobatic moves like I've never felt before. He would not stop punching and kicking and rolling. I just lay there the entire time, enjoying every second of it. Since I get up an average of three times per night to use the bathroom, I know that he was pretty active all night as well.

I forgot to post about something amazing yesterday, since it happened right before bed the night before and I didn't make my entry until the evening. On Sunday night, we got into bed. William kept his typical routine of talking to Jackson (in my belly) right before we went to sleep. As soon as he stopped talking, Jackson kicked a bunch. It was so neat. So I told William to talk to him again, just to see if it was a coincidence. Sure enough, Jackson kicked so hard that my whole stomach burst out. It was so amazing. William tried it again last night, and the same thing happened. It's the sweetest thing. I just love that they are already able to bond.

I am exhausted today and have close to a 12-hour day at work tomorrow. I bought some floral arrangements for my two admins at work (since tomorrow is Administrative Professionals Day), and I think I'll make some brownies to go with them. Then I'm going to hit the couch early and have no qualms about it.
