So to cut a long story short I'm currently in hospital and started the induction process about an hour ago. I've be having reduced movement and a scan showed low fluids so baby is being evicted earlier than expected. Induction could take upto 3 days depending on how I get on but hopefully it won't! Currently not dilated at all, propus was put in an hour ago and will stay for next 24 hours. After which I'll be checked and it repeated uptothree times Iif needed. Once dilated enough they'll do AROM. Any easy labour thoughts or vibes would be appreciated! I'll try keep you posted!

Thank you for your lovely comments ladies. It turned out to be a very long and difficult birth that resulted in an emergency c - section. We're all doing well though, I'm healing well and apart from a little jaundice Thomas is great - he's a very chilled little boy, takes after his daddy! I will post my birth story as soon as I have chance (and the attention span) to write it!Ashley - dh isn't a big fb fan lol plus we had loads of family and close friends who we wanted to speak with / share photos with before sharing with the world.

Oh Jen! Sorry to hear about the emergency c-section . . . I ended up with one, too. I also know how hard it is to find the attention span to sit down and write your birth story!!! Enjoy every moment with your little guy. He's precious and I love the pictures you've posted on FB!

So reading Jeralynns birth story has given me a kick up the bum to make a start on Thomas'! So here we go...

Tuesday 4th March
Thomas' birth story started here I guess, having had reduced spontaneous movements from him since Sunday we went up to the hospital Tuesday morning so I could get checked out. I was hooked up to the monitor for a while (an hour or so if I remember) and thomas' heartrate looked fine but I was still not feeling hardly any movements. Because this was my second episode of reduced movement they needed a doctor to review me before discharge / deciding on admission. We waited hours....almost 7...to see a doctor. A doctor finally showed up around 5pm and decided to admit me to they could do another heart trace that evening and arrange a scan for me the following morning. I was taken up to the ward about 6pm - in my own room as it was the only one available lol. The doctor had said the second trace should be done between 6-7pm but it wasn't started till later - almost 9pm I think. (just a sign of things to come, we did ALOT of waiting around). Again the trace ended up being fine but still, hardly any movement.

Wednesday 5th
I was taken down for my scan first thing, 9am-ish. Thomas looked great physically, but his liquor volume had reduced from a scan i'd had the previous week plus the tech didn't see any gross movements during the entire scan. After the scan I was taken back upto the ward and hooked back up to the trace. Again - trace fine. This day is when things really started to get bad in terms of the care I received - bearing in mind the reduced movements, reduced liquor volume - I waited again hours to see a doctor to find out what happened next. The midwife taking care of me suggested they might want to send me home as the traces were normal but they may just as easily induce me. By mid afternoon, i'd really had enough of waiting and was getting more and more worried about Thomas' wellbeing. Things just didn't feel right. In my job I spend my time assessing the quality of healthcare people receive - which includes hospitals, so I knew the care I was receiving was not good enough. I spoke to the midwife in charge who was useless and basically said she had no power to get a doctor to see me quicker. (Bull!) Anything I suggested, either she'd already done or wasn't possible. To put in context I know ALOT about how hospitals work, the chain of command so to speak and there was a lot more she could have done but was just ineffective - which I told her. I wasn't mean, aggressive or rude - just honest. I almost had this woman in tears (so DH has told me since). After this discussion, magically, my consultant turned up (about 6.30pm - clearly on his way home as he had his car keys in his hand!) and he said that he wanted to induce me as the reduced movements were continuing. He said it would depend on when they could fit me in for induction, but he would make sure it happened before the end of the week. He disappeared off to make some calls and came back to say they had a space tonight so I would be transferring to the labour ward to start the induction. I cant tell you how relieved we were to finally have a plan, some answers, anything after the day we'd had!
By 9pm I was down on the labour ward, which was reallllly busy. So I waited till 11.30pm ish for the propus to be inserted to kick start the induction. That night I was moved between three different beds - from a private room, to a bay, to a different bay. I finally got settled around 2am but then was woken up every hour to have my obs checked (standard protocol and continued throughout my stay).

Thursday 6th
Nothing much happened this day, it was really long and boring if i'm honest. I tried to rest but struggled as the bay (four women being induced) was noisy and the regular obs checks. me and DH walked, I bounced on a birthing ball and tried to move things along. plan was to check my cervix at 24hours for progress and see if they could break my water and go from there.
That night they checked my cervix - it was sooooo painful, excruciating in fact. My cervix had not changed a jot, I was not favourable, 3cm long and thick. By the time the exam was over I was in floods of tears, from the pain and the worry and disappointment. They decided to give it another 6 hours (just in case) and check again in the morning.

Friday 7th
Had my cervix checked around 9am, by a different more experienced doctor (using gas and air this time) and she was able to break my water. Cervix was barely open however, was still 3cm long and thick. Not looking great and they made it clear I had a very long way to go!

Opps...Thomas is stirring, i'll come back asap to finish

Glad I inspired you, Jen. All of the waiting would have driven me bonkers! I'm looking forward to hearing the rest. So glad to know at the end of it, you got a precious little boy!
