Is anyone skipping the infant carrier seat and going straight to a convertible seat?

I checked online. The seated shoulder height is the same between the infant carriers we are looking at and our current convertible car seat. The recline on the seats all appear to be the same. I can't find a valid reason to purchase a new infant seat. I thought the seated shoulder height was higher on our convertible. Its not. Its the same as the popular infant carriers. Britax has ONE seat with a lower seated shoulder height and that seat appears to be specifically designed for preemies.

The only reason I can think to buy the infant carrier is to not take the baby out of the car seat. However, I always took DD out anyways when she was an infant. I put her into the stroller or wore her. I didn't want to keep her in the car seat. I feel like we're really pushing it, but I'd rather wait until I have the baby in my arms and put the baby into the seat and see how she fits. If she fits poorly, send DH to the store for an infant carrier.

My mom suggested go ahead and buy an infant carrier, just keep it in the box and return it if we don't need it. That way we (or rather DH) wont be rushing store to store. AND we can pick out a seat together that we both like. Not just a rushed purchase that we may or may not both like. The only issue with that is I have a limited budget and could really use $200 towards other baby needs.

With what you said Id got the convertible way..less hassle of having an extra seat on hand. I am one that Loves to leave baby in seat and be able to carry him around, transport etc without waking. We have our seat in the box still. I feel bad even DH is like WHY? LOL I have 2 convertible carseats for infants to child..and I love them both. Never did use as infants..

If you don't use the infant seat and you have a limited budget, don't get it. If the stroller and wearing works for you then definitely go that route. $200 can be spent elsewhere.

I liked the convience of the infant seat too. Plus DH and I both own cars right now that are only two door vehicles. Its really hard to get in there and put baby in and out of a two door car! For that reason we tried our hardest to leave DS in his rearward facing for as long as we could. Plus I like not having to wake a napping baby to get it in and out of the car.

I like being able to keep the baby in the seat - all too often they are sleeping after a car ride and I hate to disturb them!

I'm just going to go with the convertible too. I have a britax marathon 65, that's still good for a long time, so not buying another. I wear my babies all the time too & never had a problem with waking them when I took them out of the seat. They rarely woke up when going from the seat to cuddles. I found they were just as likely to wake with the stopping of motion, like when I set the seat down & carrying those suckers killed my back.

I did consider it, but I'm just going to get a stroller with the infant carrier because the stroller we decided on needs an infant carrier for their newborn stage and I don't really want to purchase an after market infant insert.
