The challenge starts on February 14th and will end on April 8th.
(Valentine's Day through to Easter Sunday).
There will be a prize for the winning team TBA, which will probably
involve a small voucher for an online store.
Each Monday to Friday during the challenge, I will post a GTKY question - the thread will have "GTKY Challenge Question 2/14" etc in the title. Post your answer by that Sunday to earn a point for your team.
Each Tuesday, I will also post a challenge to start a GTKY thread of your own around a particular theme. As examples, this might be a day-of-the-week themed thread, a thread around a particular topic, a thread containing a particular word, a thread title containing a number. Post your thread by that Sunday and place a link back in my thread to earn two points for your team.
Each Thursday, I will post a trivia challenge thread with an August-related trivia question for each time. You will have until the following Tuesday to collaborate and for one team member to post the answer. You will earn three points for your team for each correct answer.
1-3 times per week on random days, I will post a clue to find an owl somewhere on the JM message boards. The first to post a link to the location will also earn three points for their team. I will vary the times that I post these clues as much as I can, and they will also sometimes come at the weekend, as I know some of you work.

Q: "I also have a question for the challenge. I was wondering if each team member that answers the questions and starts a GTKY thread and so on earns a point for their team? Or just that one team member needs to answer because you only get 1 point per question per team? I hope I'm explaining this right. So say team 1 has 2 people answer this. They get 1 point or 2? I am wondering because if some team members don't come around as much, they'll not get a chance for as many points as other teams. And if there were a team with just 2 player (like mine was until another joined) they'd never get more than the 2 points. So I was just wondering if you could clear that up for us, Sharron Thanks"
A: for these daily challenges and the weekly GTKY thread challenge, each team member can play.
So, if just you play from your team, that's 1 point. If you and Emma play, that's 2 points. If you, Emma AND Lauren play - that's 3 points.
This is exactly the reason why I have spread out people who said they wouldn't be able to check the boards daily/often, and not put them all on the same team. AND the reason why you have until the Sunday to do all the week's challenges. That way, if you're a "weekend poster", or you only check the board once a week, you can mop them all up while you're here on your preferred day.
And also the reason why there are more points available on the weekly August trivia and the owl hunts. Only ONE team member, in theory, has to play those to get the points.

A: All 3 of you for this one (GTKY thread challenges). The trivia and the owl hunts will be done as a team.

A: Correct.
I don't expect every member of a team to do every single challenge ever because life gets in the way. However I have made it very fair. This is why I have structured the team so that most teams have 2 very active members; and why I have spread out those who said up front they couldn't get on every single day. This is also why you ladies have all week to do the daily challenges and weekly challenge. Anyone who is a "weekend poster" or only pops in on a specified day each week, can still do all the ones from that week, as long as it's done by Sunday.
Also, the GTKY questions and threads are pretty easy to do.
If every team was going to get exactly the same amount of points the whole time, it wouldn't work, because we'd never get a winner. We're soon going to get differences in points anyway because trivia answers have to be correct to get the point, and only the first person to find an owl gets points for their team.
However, do keep in touch with your team-mates. If any of your team members are ever unavoidably MIA, eg due to illness/bedrest etc, for more than a week, let me know by PM and I'll work something out with you to make up points lost from their MIA-ness.
oh and...just to say...the reason there are a mixture (ie some challenges are a team effort and some each individual can play) is because when I've done challenges before and there have been really "over-exuberant" team members, other team members have wound up feeling left out/useless/nothing to do...and that's no fun for anyone! This way, there's always something for EVERYONE to do.
Another question about the Owl hunt clues. Are you going to be posting the clues in their own threads and naming them Owl Hunt Clues or something of the like so we know, or are the clues subtle in other threads and we just have to find the clues? Sorry to be asking so much
No no, I knew once we got going people would suddenly think of a bunch of questions! I put today aside to be around to field stuff like this, it makes me feel useful!
Yes, when I post an owl hunt clue the thread will be titled (eg) Owl Hunt Clue 2/14 - and it will have the green arrow icon like the other challenge threads too.
Just so that you can come off alert for today, I'm not posting any owl hunt clues today. I want to give all the players a chance to read their PM and get started on the daily challenges before I start with those.
Ok, sorry but now I'm a little confused lol...don't worry, it doesn't take much to confuse me these days
But on one part you answered that the weekly thread GTKY part of the challenge was 1 point if one person on the team played, 2 points if 2 players on the team play and 3 if all 3 members played. But then under that Q & A you answered that if 1 person out of the 3 on a team didn't play (meaning the 2 other members played but one did not) then there would be no points for the team. I took that to mean that there would be no points at all for the thread weekly part unless every member played. Is that correct of did I take that wrong?
This is how I think the points lay out as far as members earning points and how many are possible if all members play:
Weekly GTKY Thread Challenge: 2 points for each team member who plays (pos. 6 points total)
Weekly GTKY Challenge Question: 1 point for each team member who plays (pos. 3 points total)
Weekly Trivia Challenge: 3 points for each team with the correct collaborated answer to be posted by one member of the team (pos. 3 points or none if wrong)
Owl Hunt: 3 points to the FIRST team with a member who posts the link to the thread with the Owl (pos. 3 points or none)
Is that correct? Sorry, not trying to make this hard for you I just get confused easy. I just want to make sure I know who has to play to earn points for each part. Thanks, Sharron
You have it right on your last post - except the GTKY questions are daily, not weekly.
If one of your team members does not answer a challenge question, or post a weekly GTKY thread, it's only THEIR potential point(s) the team loses. They will still get points for the members who played. I hope that's clear now.
Oops, that was a mistake lol. Ok, thank you for clearing it all up for me now lol. I swear, I'm not trying to confuse you too I think since I got pg my brain is not what it used to be. Even DH says so lol. I;ll say something and he'll look at me like, "What???". I hope after the baby comes my mind goes back to normal.
