I'm anemic and have to increase my iron intake. Yuck! I'm not going to look forward to this, but as the doctor said, in preparation for labor it's best.

Yeah DH is going to go to GNC and get me something to take. I hate taking iron but I have to do it. I want a healthy Ethan and a healthy me when I deliver.

Hooray for passing, but sorry you have to take iron supplements. Not sure if you've ever taken then, but they can cause constipation, just an FYI.

Since the supplements cause constipation is there any food you can eat that would increase your iron levels enough? More meat, green vegi's or green smoothies??
Hope whatever you do helps you and Ethan get healthy!!

We should start a club. I do suggest going with an iron supplement that has both heme and non-heme iron because it will be easier on your stomach and supposedly the digestive system. I'm back to taking Bifera, and it doesn't upset my stomach at all (while normal iron supplements do). It's pricey but I think it's worth it, and it also absorbs into your system better. Just about 12 more weeks to go! You can do it!

Yay on passing the one-hour glucose test! That stuff tastes like battery acid.
I'm anemic too. I eat a lot of iron-enriched foods so I can avoid the pills. I hope your levels start coming up. When they do, you will have more energy.

I'm so used to anemia, I've had it on and off since birth. I don't look forward to the supplements, but I'll start that and combine it with the foods.

It's great that you passed you GD test, sorry about the iron. With my last pregnancy I had to take iron supplements but I took the ones with a stool softner in them so I didn't have problems with constipation due to the iron pill. I also ate a lot of iron rich foods too.

I'm glad you passed your glucose test, but sucks about your blood count. I hope with diet and supplements, your levels can go up. Its really important to have a good CBC count if youre planning to have an epidural. I'm taking both my glucose and CBC done tomorrow morning. I hope I pass!

Really? I had no idea that it's important for an epi. I have my heart set on one. This gives me motivation. Thanks.

Yay for passing!!! Not so much for the iron deficiency.
I hope the supplements won't be too hard on you.

Even if you were still anemic during labor, they wont deny your epidural, but some MDs do get a little cautious. They mostly look at platelet counts when doing a CBC to see your clotting factors. If your platelets are low though , you may be denied an epidural, because then you are really at risk for bleeding within the epidural space. In combination with anemia and low platelets, then your doctor will intervene and suggest options for delivery. I know I went overboard with info here, but I'm doing my 2 hour glucose test bored to death LOL!

Ok Liz, add me to your anemic club lol!! My hematocrit and hemoglobin are low! I just checked my levels online, so I will get a call from my OB soon. My platelets are normal though. Haven't gotten my glucose results yet :/

Yay for passing your glucose. Sucks about the anemia though. I suffer from it normally too and have found that liquid iron (although tastes HORRIBLE) doesn't have as much of an issue with constipation.

Oh man what is that three of us now or more? Looks like the last trimester really does a number on us. I had iron issues with all three pregnancies now. I was hoping to avoid it this time.

Well, we just know we have babies that are getting everything they need, even at our expense!
