For BTDT moms that BF'd, did you wear your nursing bra all the time - even while sleeping? I'm looking at some styles online and I guess I need to get something really comfortable if I'm going to have to wear them all day but I'm kind of hesitant to buy anything yet until I know what size I'll be after my milk comes in.

Also, are the pads pretty good at containing leaks? My mom was giving me a horror story yesterday about how when she was teaching and nursing me, she had a bra, camisole, shirt, vest and blazer on and she still leaked through. Just what I want to happen at my predominately male workplace.

Good question. I'm at a loss when it comes to nursing bras.

I am buying these: http://www.amazon.com/Lilypadz-Silic...=32819WWQDSBU4 because I've heard great things about them. And I have some disposable pads in mind too.

I have to wear them 24 hours because of the leaking. Gotta hold the nursing pads in place somehow. It's good to have a sleep bra for just such a purpose. I wish I had some great recommendations for nursing bras, but I don't.....haven't ever loved any of mine much.

I slept in my Lilypadz, and they never leaked- not even once. I refuse to sleep in a bra.

I only wore my nursing bras during the day. I found them particularly ugly and not very supportive. I need to find some sexy ones this time.

Oh, thank you for posting the Lilypadz! I am so relieved I won't have to sleep in a bra now! Woohoo!

If you use the Lilypads or even disposable pads, just make sure to give your boobs some air time too. Thrush thrives in hot, moist places and once you get it it's not easy to get rid of. BTDT and let me say thrush SUCKS!

I have always worn nursing tanks vs bras. I'm more comfortable nursing with my belly covered than with exposed skin. My boobs aren't sooooo big that I needed a ton of support.

I bought a few nursing bras in my 3rd trimester and they fit me fine when my milk came in. I'm actually wearing them now sometimes because none of my other ones fit anymore.

I didn't have to wear them at night as I didn't leak very often. Through the day I'd wear disposable nursing pads and they worked great for the times I did leak.

I hate my nursing bras though and I'd love to find some nice ones that have great support. As Sherry said, they're not very pretty and definitely not supportive.

I waited to buy my nursing bras until after my son was born...I got fitted by my lactation consultant because I had no idea what size to get (and I got bigger once my milk came in). I did buy a couple of nursing tanks ahead of time and I wore them daily at home only, even though they were comfy, they provide no support for those with a larger bust (I'm currently 34/36DD). Sometimes I wore both a tank and a bra if I knew I'd be nursing in public so my stomach would be covered. I bought a few disposable nursing pads but rarely wore them because I never really leaked (well, except the one time I walked into daycare and my son started crying, lol). I did have fabric pads that came with some of my bras because my nipples were SO sensitive.

Yeah I think the pads are a lot better now than in my mom's time. The Lily padz look great! I'm hadn't heard about those so I'm glad you all mentioned them.

I used reusable pads, they were super comfy. I found a website for super cute nursing bras too. I hated having to wear ugly bras for half a year last time so I'll use the ugly ones I already have and sleep in them at night but I'm totally buying cute bras this time.

I honestly found that sports bras were cheaper and more comfortable. They worked for me but I'm very small (maybe a B size w/ milk in). I think I'll look into the lilypads too.

I have never been able to find a nursing bra in a normal or maternity store that has cup sizes big enough. At night and around the house I wore nursing tanks. I had uniboob ad it wasn't pretty but was good fr sleeping and holding in the breast pads. I use reusable will ready pads and I have leaked through them but I have extreme let down.

Anyway I went to intimacy, a store in Atlanta that specializes in weird bra sizes. My nursing bras are a 34G. Some are actual nursing bras and some are regular bras that I had converted to nursing bras since they do alterations for free. They fit like normal bras (because they are!). So I can actually get support and some
Cute ones.

these are the breast pads that I use and love... and within my circle of friends these are the 'must haves'

LANACare Original Wool Nursing Pads - Nurtured Family

Quote:
These incredibly soft and soothingly comfortable nursing pads provide the best conditions for successful breastfeeding. This original style features a double layer of wool, which is sufficient for most women's needs and they dry more quickly than the Ekstra version. Most women need only 2 pairs for the entire nursing period. When one pair feels wet, let it dry while wearing the second pair. Lanolin's cleansing properties keep the wool fresh and hygienic. The wool can absorb up to 40% of its weight without feeling wet. When the pads do feel wet, they're warm, not cold and clammy as with cotton or disposable pads. Your skin is kept dry and able to breathe, allowing sore nipples to heal. Scandinavian midwives have, for centuries, advised mothers to protect their breasts from wind and cold to prevent plugged ducts and mastitis. Larger sizes give protective coverage over greater a portion of the breast. When needed, wash by hand in lukewarm water with mild hair shampoo, alternating with LANACare 20% Lanolin-Soap. LANACare's lanolin-replenishing soap has a much higher lanolin content than most other wool-washes and will keep your pads feeling soft and soothing.
Even though I did have heavy let down I didn't have to wash them every day or anything, and I had woolie wash that smelled sooo good and just let them sit in my bathroom sink in it a d squeezed... it took like a minute and made my whole bathroom smell good too, lol. I also never had thrush or mastitis or any other BFing issue.

I always have to wear something to support my boobs. I've already grown from a 34D to 34F-G so i have to buy them online to find my size. Last time i always slept in the sleep bras and those were comfy. I never had any issues leaking when wearing disposable pads. I might look into some reusable ones this time.

I've heard great things about Bravado bras. They have a wide range of sizes.

Thrush blows. I'll second that.

Personally, I can't stand nursing bras. I find them uncomfortable, frumpy and shapeless and unsupportive - I mean, seriously, your boobs look extra awesome when you nurse, why wouldn't they make awesome bras? The few that do have underwire (I abhor wireless bras) are just as useless as the wireless variety IMO. I wore them for almost a year until I lost my patience and bought a flattering, comfortable, normal bra. So much better! I threw them all away and won't be replacing them.
I will say that I don't mind the Bravado nursing tank. It could really use some wire in it but it's tolerable.
I rarely wear a bra around the house and never at night. I never wore nursing pads either. The only time I really leaked was during letdown and generally only late night/early morning with only a handful of exceptions but I figured if anyone in public found my slightly leaky boobs offensive, it was their problem, not mine I had stopped leaking by around 6 months PP though so I really didn't see it as an issue.

I did wear mine all the time until I stopped leaking. People leak differently lol. Some leak just in the beginning (like me), while others all the time. I spent good money on a comfortable nursing bra because so many were way uncomfortable. I think bras are the thing I've spent the most on! There are some overnight bras but they don't have very much padding/cushion. For daytime, if you can get a bra that's a little padded/lined, you might be able to get away with not wearing any pads. But for the first month, I would stock up on some pads. Personally, I like the soft cotton ones. The disposable ones clung to me, and my nips were so sore at the beginning I tried to find the most comfortable cotton ones out there. I would buy the nursing bras from a store that has a good return policy, and I'd wear them for a few hours before taking off the tag (if you can help it). I wasted a lot of money at first on cheap bras :/.

Excellent advice ladies. I was wondering about this as well. I never used nursing bras with DS. I just made do with my regular bras. I'm going to look into that bravado nursing tank. I think it looks really cute and functional.

I agree about the leaking thing. I didn't trust my boobs at night for the first few months. Relaxing completely to sleep usually meant letting down for some dumb reason. I did do the trick of using plain tank tops and stuffing the breast pads in there at night if I didn't want to wear a bra but it has to be pretty tight in the boob area or they'll just shift and you'll wake up covered in milk.

Lilypadz and Bravado bras.......lived in them 24/7.

The other thing that REALLY REALLY helped me is this product. It wraps you while you're in the shower. No one told me how badly a shower would HURT while breastfeeding.......

Highly recommend all three!!
