So I had my daily dr's appt the other day.... The week before I had an Ultrasound and baby's head was facing down and at the spot where he needed to be. Which is a good thing... At this weeks appt. the midwife had done the testings "down there" and tried to feel the baby's head... She said that she couldn't feel it and that I may have to go in for another Ultrasound in two weeks... Wha???? She even did the external belly exam to try to feel the head position and she was really squeezing my belly... ( Note that I see so many different midwives at this office so this was my second time seeing this one... and I don't think I like her from the first visit but ended up having her check me up the other day)
I have to say that I was a little concerned but I felt a lot of kicking around last night towards the top of my belly making me think his feet is there and felt him have hiccups on my lower belly thinking that that was where the head was at... oh boy... I guess only next weeks apointment can tell....
wth? you are only 34 weeks. why are they freaking out?
I know!!! I left the office concerned but then realized that baby does turn if he is indeed not where he is supposed to be... But makes you think tons afterwards... I'm trying to think on the positive side and that next weeks appointment with another midwife that i like is going to be better.
Too many ultrasounds. Midwives are losing their touch. Seriously if you are not high risk you do not need another ultrasound and they need to slow their roll. Don't let them freak you out. She just sounds incompetent.

I agree! You have plenty of time for him to turn. She just needs to calm down. My LO keeps switching back and forth between transverse and head down so I have no idea where she'll end up at my next appt. Last night I felt hiccups in the middle of my stomach so I'm guess her head's moved up again.
Nothing really to add but would like to just throw it out there that I had a (33 week) check up yesterday and they still have yet to check me for anything... I guess I have a more laid back office???
I am 36 weeks on Tuesday and my doctor just called to postpone my appointment for another two weeks because she'll be in surgery. Have had no internal exams, no GBS, nothing........and I'm "high risk"! I honestly think this baby might come before my next appointment, but oh well....

At my appointment yesterday, my doctor said he'd check for her position to make sure she's head down at my next appointment (36.5 weeks), but until then he doesn't care what position she's in. After that, though, he said he'd start getting concerned if she wasn't in position yet. I was sort of thinking even at 36 weeks and some change that was pretty early to expect her to be, and stay, head down.
I am getting another ultrasound at 35 weeks to make sure my fibroid they found early in my pregnancy won't pose a problem, but its not for position checking or anything.

Me neither. I had to go back and re-read the OP. What is up with not just all the ultrasounds but all the "checking" too? I haven't had a doctor's hand up there since I got my pap and first ultrasound at my first appt. Do they "check" you at every appt? Tell them to keep their paws off.
This last Tuesday I had my weekly OB check and he only measured and felt along my belly for the position. He said baby was head down and might stay that way at this point but not to be shocked if I felt him flipping around a little for another week or two. I'm 36 weeks today. I sometimes feel his hiccups more towards the right side middle, but the OB said that sometimes I'm feeling his back not his head when he has them. He doesn't do internal exams every time, he said it's not needed and the less poking up there the better. He also told me unless something was a concern, there was no need for any more U/S. So I guess it just depends on the office?
I think ultrasounds definitely depend on the office, but mostly I think its just a ploy to make more money off insurance companies. My civilian doctor in Florida did an ultrasound for any ole reason, I had 6 total before we moved and I was only 23 weeks. Moving to a military doctor on base, they only do 2 ultrasounds the whole pregnancy, one to confirm pregnancy and one for the anatomy scan. The only reason I've wound up with an extra is cause my useless office in Florida didn't send any record of my fibroid whatsoever so he wants to check for any growth.
I haven't had an ultrasound since 22 weeks and unless there's some kind of emergency I won't have another one - my doctor said she's just happy if baby is generally head down, which she can determine through a physical exam, and most babies move into the best position during labour so not to worry about his position.
Midwife sounds incompetent for sure. I'm getting one more u/s on Monday but it's to check for his measurements. She already determined he was head down at my last appoint at 33 weeks. I haven't had any internals this pregnancy either. I had my pap not too much earlier than the pregnancy and my last internal was during my m/c. I should have one on Monday cause she's going to do the gbs test. I would refuse certain testing or internals if you're not comfortable with them.

The midwife did internals for other testings as well but also tried to feel for the head and couldn't find it..
Note to self... I will not go to her again.. Hope she isn't working at teh hospital the time that I go into labor....
My OB just feels my stomach, measures fundal length, and uses the doppler...that's it. I should have only 2 u/s but I had a third to check to make sure my placenta moved away from my cervix. No other checking. She did mention since growth is good I won't be seeing baby again till birth.
Hope you don't get that midwife again!
