Now that Rose is a month old, I wanted to take her to get her ears pierced, but I'm so worried about infection and pain. At what age did you ladies have your daughters' ears pierced?
For the new mommas with girls: when do you think you will have your baby's ears pierced?

I'll be getting Ava's done around that time too. Honestly, my mom was one on the side of waiting until I asked for it, so I was 4 and I still remember to this day how horrible it was! Keep in mind I barely remember what I ate yesterday, my memory is horrible. I've never known a little girl that didn't want her ears pierced, so I want to do it for Ava when shes young enough that she wont remember. I know a lot of ladies here dont agree with that though.
We will do it as soon as we can. I think if you know you're going to do it, the younger the better. My logic on this is they are less likely to touch or play with them at this age and I'd assume that means less chance for infection
To each their own but for us they will be at least 10 and will NOT get their ears pierced with a gun. They will be old enough to want them and take care of them themselves. Like I said - to each their own but I'd like to encourage everyone to research the difference between gun piercing and needle piercing.
I'm waiting for Harper to ask me to do it. She's going to be way older than four too. I'm with Melanie, I want her to be old enough to take care of them herself. I'm not chasing a toddler around to turn her earrings every few hours.
I'll add that mine were done with a gun too, which could have added to the trauma, lol. I'm not sure there was an option in the 80s though. I had my second holes done at 20 with a needle and I barely felt them and they pretty much healed without any fuss.
I keep going back and forth on this. I'd like to get them done when she's a baby but my family doesn't think I should.
I begged my mom to get them done when I was 7 and she finally conceded as long as I got all A's on my report card. I got them done at the pediatrician's office and it was with a gun but I don't remember them hurting at all. I got my second holes at 16 and third holes at 18 with the gun and they weren't bad at all.

I'm going to wait until 8-10. If they're done at an infant, they'll eventually grow (meaning the holes) more outwards and will have to close up and be redone anyway (they'll be set too far apart eventually).
And, I think between 3-6 is too young bc they'll be more prone to playing with them, and healing will be an issue.
I had mine pierced as a baby (I believe my mom said within the first month). I have heard that its best as a baby because it doesn't hurt as much. I've been told this by many different people, but I just can't stand poking her at this age for vanity LOL. I cried when Rose was getting poked to get bili levels checked, so I know I will cry for this. DH doesn't want to do it now. He wants to wait at least 6 months. I do think it's so cute when babies have earrings and I can't wait to see her with hers. Maybe I should just buy clip ons

I had T's done when she was 3 months. Never had any issues with them. I'm also a to each their own person.

I was wondering about this too. I thought I saw something that said it's better to wait until after 2 months because they will have their tetanus shot by then. Does anyone know anything about this?
I have very fond memories of my dad taking me to have mine done when I was six. I want it to be an "event" for her. And I'm not putting unnecessary holes into her body without her showing interest in them. When we have it done, it will be done by a piercer with needles and definitely not the gun.
If this is a girl, I was thinking around 6 weeks (haven't discussed with DH yet though, not sure what his thoughts are).
You bring up a good point on the gun vs needle. I had my first ones done at about 6 weeks with a gun and have never had an issue. I had my 2nd ones done when I was 11 with a gun and I constantly have infections, can only wear certain ones, etc. My 3rd ones were done with a needle when I was about 16 and I have no issues. If it wasn't the middle hole, I'd let them close! Can they use needles on infants?

I am not sure yet what I will do. My sisters and I got ours pierced after we finished kindergarten. I don't remember the pain at all, but I do remember it being an exciting event.

Great question! I'd wondered about this. I'm thinking I'll just wait, although I adore baby girls with pierced ears. So cute! I was 10 when mine were done, and remember it as so exciting. I felt so grown-up. That being said, I was horrible about keeping them clean, and they got infected and had to be redone. I had my 2nd holes around 12, and had no problems.

I got both of my girls done when they were babies. Alexis my older daughter was about 3 months old, they wouldnt do ear piercings where I live until that age. She screamed for a 3 seconds and then fell asleep. I also gave her a little tynelol right before she got it done. My other daughter was 6 months old, and she did great too. She cried for a minute, and was over it. My girls are now 5 and 3 and they haven't had any problems with infections.
I don't think it can be done until baby is at least 3 months.
I wanted to have Emmersyns done, I had mine done as a baby with no issues. But DH wants to wait until the girls are old enough to ask for it themselves, so that's what we're doing.
