BTDT mamas -- any fun water breaking stories? I know its pretty rare (like 10 or so) for your water to break as the first sign of labor... and often it leaks rather than gushes, but I'm still curious if anyone has a good water breaking story. You know, since in the movies its always so dramatic and always in public

I'm having a hard time believing its only 10% with the ladies we've had here experiencing it, DH's gma was telling me today thats how labor started for her, and mil had one of her labors start that way. Either thats a whole lot of coincidence since I dont ever talk labor with people, or its higher than 10%!

Not here. With my first it broke but only leaked a bit and I had to have it broken with the other two. I have a funny story from my mom though. She says she was sitting in the car with my dad when her water broke. They had just gotten some fast food and were chilling. She said she felt a sharp jab and then wetness. She told my dad, "I'm peeing and I can't stop." He apparently thought she was joking so she told him she was serious. His response, "Well move over!" They then went to my grandparent's house who had no electricity and she sat on a bucket in the closet till it stopped. Lovely huh?

Omg Missa! A bucket? Hahahaha
No funny story from me, my water just leaked slowly, not enough for a real gush but enough I knew something was up.

Nothing exciting here, but I do want to say it was a huge gush like in the movies! I got up at 6:30am to get a drink of water, bent down to get a bottle of water out of the fridge and woosh... water everywhere, and it wouldn't stop. I had to call for Jason(who was fast asleep) to get me a towel and as I walked down the hallway to the bathroom it just kept flowing! It was a whole lot more then I ever imagined it would be!

It did start that way for lots of ladies here...way more than other boards I have been on. I think I have only had one friend IRL who had her water break to start things. I have been surprised at how many have experienced it here.
And none for me. All 5 broke right before baby came out.
Sorry for the 1ht

All the women in my family have their waters break at the very start of labour, I didn't realise it was so rare and I think it's one of the reasons I went into denial when I started having real contractions at the start of labour! I was like 'water hasn't broken, this isn't it' haha!
My Mums water broke with me when she was serving up afternoon tea to her MIL, FIL and Auntie-in-law (of whom she had never meet). Said it was one of the most embarrassing moments of her life!

With my second child I got a prescription from my doctor to augment labor. It was a prescription for sex. As I was discussing this prescription with my husband I felt a small gush of water. My water broke but it was just a small hole near the top but I went in and got induced anyway.
My third child my water broke while I was laying down in bed reading a book. I finished reading the chapter I was on and went to sleep, going to labor and delivery in the morning to get induced again.

Oh a topic I have experience on Well with my first I had to have it broken, but the doctor kept trying to break it and just when he gave up and went to pull the scratchy thing out, the waters went pop and all over him ha!
The other two were c-section, but as you all know I had PROM with Harper so, my waters obviously broke. I had been having small gushes but kept being fobbed off at the hospital. Then at about 4am I woke up feeling a little wet and I assumed I had wet the bed. So I got up, went to the bathroom, had a quick shower as I was feeling crampy lol, and changed the sheet then hopped in bed. I couldnt sleep so I grabbed my laptop and was on JM I recon, and I felt another little gush. I was like "omg my bladder is messed up". I stood up and it sorta kept coming, like slowly down my leg. So I TMI smelled the bed and knew it wasn't urine but couldn't be sure. I tried to wake my Mum up as we were staying there and she wouldn't budge, so I woke my grandmother up and she smelled the bed too and then all the sudden it just kept gushing down my leg, I went through 2 pads and 2 pairs of pants in 4 mins. I made my way to the hospital which is a 2min drive and was soaked before I got there. I walked into Midwifery and the same midwife who sent me away without testing was on, I told her I thought my waters had broken and she was all "A-gain" in a smart arse tone. She asked for my pad, so I pulled it off and slapped it in her hand, she was gobsmacked and rushed off really fast. Anyway thats about it lol. I kept gushing for hours, the plane ride I was dry when it took off with so many towels it was like a nappy but when we touched down I was drenched.. Never realised how much fluid is actually in there!

I only know one person it happened to...she was at 35 weeks, and she was sitting on the couch. It kept gushing and she was sooo embarassed, went through like 4-5 pairs of pants as she went and packed her hospital bag etc (since she wasn't prepared) and a hospital trip 10 min away, where they had her drive to the hospital 40 min further since they didn't deliver before 37 weeks. She said it the same thing - the amount of fluid was insane.

None here... I just lost my plug when I went to the bathroom and had bloody show. The OB broke my water for my C-section. But I did have a gush of fluid (small gush) 2 weeks before that when my plug first started to let go. It wasn't urine, the OB said it was a build up of fluid (also not amniotic fluid) behind the plug. I was in the yard helping DH groom the dog when I bent over and was suddenly wet. That was fun.

With Daniel I woke up in a small puddle. And when I stood up I realised it was still trickling, enough to have to wear a heavy-duty maternity pad. I did what you and your grandma did Emma, I smelled the bed! It was sweet smelling and I knew right away what it was. Not knowing any better I called the hospital and they told me to go straight in (wish I hadn't) and then didn't let me go because I had a bit of a temp (could have dealt with that at home using paracetamol which is all they did about it) - so I ended up being induced almost 48 hrs later when nothing more had happened.
I'm worried now that because I've had a lot of wet discharge this pregnancy I won't be able to tell if my waters just go with a trickle, but I keep thinking about that puddle and the smell, and reassuring myself that I'd know the difference.

With my first, I was induced via the hospital breaking my water (due to high blood pressure), and it most certainly gushed, lol. With each contraction it was like Niagra Falls coming out of me. It just seemed like it was never ending!
With my second, my water broke by itself at home. It was definitely the first sign of labor as I wasn't contracting before that, but I was certainly contracting after it! When it happened, I was laying on my bed and I heard this loud POP! sound. And I felt really weird. I froze thinking "wth was that?! " Then I got off the bed and moved into the bathroom. Sat down... and GUSH! We went to the hospital about an hour after my water broke... and a total of about 5.5 hours after the initial water breaking (and start of labor), Rhiannon was born.
With my third... this was way different. Labor started WAY before my water broke (I'm talking like 10+ hours). My water didn't end up breaking until I was in active labor and got into the birth tub. First contraction after I got in and I felt this really weird jolt in my abdomen, then suddenly liquid coming out. I don't know if it was a "gush" or a "leak" because I was in water. But every few contractions, more would come out. When I had first started going into labor though, I was unsure whether it was "real" or not because my water hadn't broken... and with my previous birth, the water breaking was what initiated labor contractions. It was soooo frustrating with each hour that went by and my water STILL wasn't broken. I didn't want to go into the birthing tub until my water broke because I didn't want to get in "too early". But I guess getting in the water was all my body needed because like I said... first contraction in the water and... *break!*

It IS amazing how much there is! Like I said I had mine broken twice, both because I was stuck and it is just such a gross feeling to sit in a bed and feel like you're peeing everywhere. With Paxton I would have a contraction, get through it by cussing and crying and begging then once it backed off I would feel the water gush out and follow it up with "Ewwwww." Apparently this amused the nurses. They did say I kept my sense of humor right up till pushing.

My experience was different since there was an induction involved but within a couple hours of starting cervidil at the hospital, I felt a sudden pop and gush and my water broke. Contractions started 10 or 15 minutes later.

Since my water broke just about 3 1/2 days ago, I'd say it's pretty fresh in my mind.
With my increasing BH contractions, my bladder was getting weaker and weaker. So when I was just getting comfy on the recliner and had a mini gush of water during a BH, I couldn't decide if it was my water breaking or peeing. So I went to the bathroom to see if it continued. I actually peed at that point, further complicating the situation. I did notice when I wiped, though, that I had a lot of snotty mucous. So I was leaning toward water breaking but still quite confused.
That's when I decided to take a shower, just in case it broke for real. After showering, I peed again, and then I heard a pop from the inside. It was the strangest sensation, and I instantly knew what had happened. When I wiped, there was bloody show.
I continued to just leak while getting ready for the hospital and in between contractions. So nothing crazy. If I hadn't heard that pop, had bloody show, and have contractions start almost immediately, I might have assumed I'd just peed myself.
