I go for mine on Jan 3rd. I am nervous. I will be 13 weeks. I was hoping for little earlier appointment but they are closed over x-mas and they said even though they say it is done from 11 weeks, they do not schedule until 12 weeks...

So i would get the scan and have the results sometime after christmas,,,So i opted to go friday and worse case scenario i f its too early i get to see the baby twice in a weeks time!

I have to make the appointment for mine. It will probably be within the next 2 weeks since she has me at 10 weeks now.

Thanks for the link. Hubby and I are debating the scan because we don't typically do genetic testing (wouldn't change how we continue the pregnancy). It seems like from that site they are checking overall growth not just the neck. If that's the case it makes it easier to agree. Weve done genetic testing on us as part of a rpl work up and we don't carry any genes or have any known translocation issues so we are not worried about downs, etc.

It is a very thorough scan. Not continuing a pregnancy is not a choice for us either. No matter what we are in this to the end <3 but if there is an issue knowing ahead of time is pretty important to us, so we agree to these tests

Just curious, are you getting the NT scan due to mom's age of more than 35 or other reasons?

I got the test with DD just because I prefer to be prepared (I was 29 and no family history). With these two I am scheduled for the scans (they have to do back to back appointments) on January 9th (the last possible day I can go). I am 32 now and no history at all of any issues in either family, but we just would rather know what to prepare for rather than not. It was so reassuring to us the last time (plus you get to see the baby for like 45 min!) that this go round, it was a no-brainer for us.

The worst part is drinking all that water and having to hold it!!!

I agree with alot of the above post...the results of the scans will not make us end the pregnancy just give us time to prepare and also another chance to see our baby!

It is offered here to everyone. I have always had it done, even before I was considered advanced maternal age.

I just want to see the baby on really advanced technology that the doctor has versus what my OBs office has!

Do you really have to drink a lot of water and hold it? That's going to suck!! I have my appt on the 28th. I think we'll be 13weeks around then. (12w4d)

Here in Canada in Quebec, We have to pay for the test...$445.00 and we do not have to drink water. They just ask us not to empty our bladder 30 mins before the test. But it does not have to be full like at the 20 week ultrasound.

here in Alberta, Canada,

It is MANDATORY for all pregnant women to have the Nuchal done! I think it really is a wonderful test, ( just for the simple fact yuo get to stare at your baby for WAY longer) our DD did have some things on her test, adn we still continued, and we still will with this one!!!!

Starr33 Thats insane that you guys have to pay for the Nuchal!!! COME TO ALBERTA!! JOIN ME!!!LOL

I turned down all genetic screening. No matter the results it won't change anything, but it was a huge stressor with DD because my numbers for Downs were really high so I had to go for a million ultrasounds and repeat bloodwork. Not worth the stress to me.

Predonioussmom,
With my last pregnancy it was $390.00 for the ultrasound and bloodwork. There was a hospital in another town that did the ultrasound but no blood work.
My Dr. found that without the blood work it is not as accurate.
This time around, Quebec now has a program where they do the bloodtests for you for free, but there is no Nuchlar Scan included......
So I decided to go back and pay for both. I am lucky though cause my husbands insurance covers 80% of it...

Not sure what a Level II u/s is...But a NT is a Nychlar scan they do between 11 weeks-13 weeks 6 days. It measures the liquid that builds up at the back of the babys back of the neck. It has shown that babies with down syndrome have a lager amount of liquid build up. After 14 weeks the system starts to absorb the liquid so that is why it is done between those weeks...

Do you have to pay for the test in the US....Do you also have to pay for the visits to your Dr.
We have to pay for the NT here in Canada, but not every provinces...It is slowly starting to be covered, but luckily we do not have to pay for any Dr. or hospital visits...It is all covered by our health insurance card....
