I'll try to get to the point. Before we found out what we were having, my MIL, SIL, and some of my husbands aunts were over at my house for MIL's birthday. They were at this point giving me all their recommendations on what we should name the baby if it was a girl. Anyway, MIL then says, oh and if this baby is indeed a boy , then we just have to have you a baby shower!! Everyone agreed in unison at this point.
This made me so angry. Let me start by saying I said I didn't want a shower when I first found out I was preganant. I refused one with my second daughter and I didn't intend to have one with this one. I feel weird asking people to buy me gifts for my 3rd child. If people want to, then by all means I'm grateful, but I don't want to have a party specifically for them to buy me presents. Anyway, MIL brought it up last night on the phone when we were talking about Easter. I just know when we're all together this weekend they are going to talk and talk. I told my husband how I felt it was very rude of them to only want to give us a shower if the baby was a boy. He just doesn't get it.
I know I'm not making sense b/c I said I didn't want a shower anyway, it's just that it hurts my feelings so much that they only wanted to celebrate if it was a boy. If this baby had been another girl, then they didn't care at all. Example, my SIL just had her second daughter in November and no one ever volunteered to give her a shower. I know she wanted a boy as well. Not only does it make me feel crappy, but I know it makes MIL's daughter upset that I'm only maybe going to get one b/c we're having a boy. Ugh.
If you've made it this far, thank you. I just needed to get this out. If this baby had indeed been another beautiful girl, my gender disappointment would be in full swing and it makes me so mad that MIL is doing this and disregarding her own daughters feelings as well.
I'm sorry! That is very unthoughtful of her. I can understand why you are upset. I bet she doesn't even realize how wrong she is. She probably hasn't even considered how it might affect anyone's feelings. Every baby is definitely worth celebrating regardless of gender
