Hello everyone. I have to get 3 silver (amalgam) fillings replaced. I am in my 2nd trimester and my dentist insists I do it, my OB says okay, but I am still so stressed about it because of all the terrible information I find through Dr. Google, that drilling the old fillings out can release mercury vapors.

Has anyone had this done during pregnancy?

I wouldn't worry about it. I had two replaced when I was pregnant with Kelly and she was fine... YOu just shouldn't get any exrays unless absolutely necessary and even then... they should cover your belly with lead vests... a few of them.. That's what they did for me and my daughter is fine.

I'm assuming you're in the 2nd trimester already, if so you should be fine.

I have to have one replaced too. My OB and my dentist said the only time it's okay to get them done is in second trimester.

FWIW I had my wisdom teeth pulled when pg with DD3. They had to chop/drill/mangle them to get them out because of the way they had grown in. You'll be okay.
